If You Could Own A Piece of MyLot...

Would you? Would you want to?
Have you ever heard of a company that is said to be "employee owned?" Essentially what this means is that everyone who works for the company works not only for their paycheck...
They actually also receive shares of the company and become part owners as a result.
One such example was a company I worked for called Quad Graphics. It was employee owned. When the company went public all of the owners were bought out, and depending on how long you worked there, you got a chunk of that money.
You also shared in profits etc.
What if MyLot became a community that became Member Owned? What if you could elect to have say, 20 cents of every dollar of your payout to be invested toward MyLot shares? Would that be something you would find appealing?
And what if MyLot became highly successful? What it became like a Facebook and went public? Imagine the value of your ownership. Imagine how that could change your life.
It is all pipe dreams, and MyLot would have to be strong, viable, and become a behemoth.
But what of the concept? Would you feel it would be a great idea? Or would you be more inclined to believe that eventually MyLot would simply go away and your investment would be worthless?

Hard to say. MyLot doesn't have the appeal or the diversification that Facebook has. Yes, I've heard of employee-owned companies. It would be nice to have a piece of MyLot if it would grow and flourish.

Yeah. You are exactly right. It is not a 'viable' company right now from an entirely business perspective. So, if they did it now it probably would be a bad idea for everyone involved. AND it is an entirely different business than Facebook of course is. I do think, though, it would be a new concept and a fresh idea, and could attract many more people to the platform.
Interestingly enough, Zuckerberg I BELIEVE is one of these people who likes the idea of universal guaranteed income. Wouldn't it be interesting if he put his money where his mouth is and started offering people a slice for their posts there? He has the people, he has the money, he has the opportunity. But right now he only COLLECTS money. He doesn't pay anyone for providing the content.

@porwest Many people have talked about that concept; but I don't see Zuckerberg doing that any time soon. It sure would be fun because I spend part of my day on FB reading and commenting.

@LindaOHio I think it could be interesting. I don't spend nearly as much time on Facebook as I used to. But if he was paying me...I just might.

I'll definitely get shares if this was to happen. Risk is inherent and myLot has been around a long time. I think it will be a good idea. Profits won't be big but instead it will come in at a slow but steady rate.

@porwest true that. Plus, it is a good passive income, sure, there are better options out there but given that the investment is minimal and almost zero effort on my part, I'll definitely sign up for this if it was available.

I'm not sure. It's a bit of a risky business but I wouldn't rule it out completely. So would you do it?

I think that I like the idea, however.. I think that there would be an influx of people coming in and the site would be too busy, too crowded and not as fun as it is now. That, in it and of itself, might cause the site to go under.. So no, I think I'd rather just "share" mylot with all of you here, and not get a "share" of mylot otherwise.

If I were given the choice, I would gladly use my myLot earnings to invest in the company. It's not like I earn very much anyway, so who knows, maybe our shares would eventually be worth something.

That is interesting. I've never worked for a company where the employees were shareholders. At least not that I know of. I am not sure if mylot would ever be a public company and maybe it is better that way.

With so many online sites going down the drain, I would fear that it would be a big risk. Just keep praying and hoping that Mylot survives for long.

We're already owned myLot virtually. We have our share for her income after we have worked it out. We don't need to invest for this is free. Ours is only to interact nothing more for this is not a passive online earning.
