No Fun To Have Arthritis In Fingers

I find it more and more difficult to do certain things because of the arthritis in my fingers in both hands.
Even typing this is hard sometimes and practicing piano.
I can no longer knit or crochet or sew or do puzzles.
I wish I had done more when I was okay. Do you have those feelings too?

@marlina That means you can still manage to use your aching fingers. Isn't it?

I dont have that yet. Have you tried drinking more water than you normally do? It might help to flush out those toxins that goes to the joints. I'm really sorry that it hampers what you love to do.

I am sorry to hear that arthritic fingers. My wife's elder brother had severe arthritis that his fingers were swollen in the joints. Just by the looks of it, painful is the description.

I suffered from trigger finger a few years back but it’s okay now and I’ve been taking Glucosamine tablets daily and it does seem to alleviate any back pain and my trigger finger hasn’t come back. I used to get joint pain when I crochet non-stop for hours but now, my fingers don’t give me any problem even when I’ve been crocheting for hours. My daughter does scold me sometimes for crocheting too long. She always insists that I rest every 20 minutes. She does have a point.
I won’t know what I would do if I can’t crochet or knit anymore. Have you tried surgery for your fingers?

@marlina She gets angry if I continue to crochet even after she told me to rest. But I just can’t put down my crocheting until I finish the project. I fear that if I put it down, I will not pick it up again.
Have you consulted a doctor about surgery? I heard that it’s one of the last options if other methods had failed.

Oh dear I am sorry you are finding things difficult especially playing the piano and typing. I would check out any local or on line societies that support people with arthritis they may have simple aids to help you with that like chunky pens or chunky cutlery! Just a thought. I hope it is not too painful for you too!

@marlina Just another thought. Do try to keep your fingers working otherwise you could end up developing contractures. Soak your hands in warm water to exercise your fingers. A cheap and simple thing you can do is use cold weather insulation pipe foam around a pen or cutlery perhaps even your knitting needles which might make difficult things more easier to deal with. It can also be used in your hands to prevent them closing up!

@marlina Thank you. So far I am doing it but yeah, hand pain really wakes a person up to how much we use our hands. I also garden and that takes a lot of hand work. I am clumsier than I used to be- its easier for a plate to slip, for instance.

I have given up knitting and crocheting, because my fingers get stiff and sore. I love playing the piano, but my fingers aren't nibble enough to play the music, as I could before
