so i made a HUGE mistake

I got a letter from the county where we live. I opened the letter expecting well nothing. But instead, it was a summons for Jury Duty (my second in my life, and my second in the 8 years we've lived in Maryland)! There was hope, however, because you can call a number and if your number is outside the range, you don't have to show up. Except my number was in the range again. So in a few minutes, I will be AFK all day, or on and off most of the day, waiting to see if I get picked for a Jury. I am practicing my mean old man's speech when asked! Ever serve on a Jury?

I've been summoned three times and served once. Love the lighthouse.

@DocAndersen Will you be eligible for the entire week? That's how it works here.

I am sorry, we do not have popular jurors here, only professional jurors.

@DocAndersen They switched to professional jurors several years ago, when they realized that often popular jurors understand nothing of the problem.

@LadyDuck the argument in the US is that it is the job of the attorney's to educate the jury to make a good decision

Somehow I have avoided this, but I am not sure how. But I know many people who have had to do it. Work on the speech...what you say in response to certain questions can almost guarantee an ouster.

@DocAndersen That's one think my hubby will now have to worry about. He's been exempt his whole adult life being in law enforcement. He was surprised they kept me for the week I served. You are lucky only having one day of service there. Ours is a while week.

@DocAndersen Going there actually made me feel anxious. I studied how the prosecutor and the appointed defense attorney made their cases. It was not a pleasant experience.
