Oomph! Don’t Forget to Open the Door

I was out on the lanai, when I heard our landline ring. I rushed to answer the phone, and smacked into the sliding glass door face first! I forgot it was closed. Let me tell you that it hurt! My forehead and my cheek are red, and I banged my nose darn hard, but I am fine after icing it. Due to the salt spray from the water, those glass doors need frequent cleaning. I guess I shouldn’t be fanatical about keeping them so clean. By the way, it was a wrong number.

Total ouch. @RasmaSandra is right: put something on that window so that you see it. People do it for birds. You can do it for you- best Valentine's Day gift ever.

Thanks! We removed the decal that was on the door, because it obstructed our view of Orville the osprey. We want to replace that door eventually, so I will have to use common sense.

Sorry! And sorry. I hate it when I run to a wrong bell or a wrong number. And yes. I would not exaggerate so much with the glass windows.

Thanks! I felt like such a fool, too. We had a sticker on the door, but removed it years ago. This was the first time I smashed into it.

@DianneN That is dangerous unless the glasses are very thick. I decided to clean once in a while the sliding glass of my window to the terrace since Luna came to my house. I suppose that now I could try to have the terrace clean again. With 2 years of age, Luna is now starting to behave.

@marguicha The glass is hurricane glass and extra thick. I smeared it with my sunscreen and saw where my face hit the glass. I had to clean it once I recovered from the shock! I’m glad Luna is beginning to behave more. She probably smears up the glass with her nose.

Why I was sure that it was a wrong number?! I am so sorry Dianne, but I know how much it hurts because it happened to me too. We should stop cleaning those glasses.

@LadyDuck The pot probably hit the door first. It’s very embarrassing, even if no one is looking.

Ouch, that would be painful and more painful upon knowing it's a wrong number. Our glass door is colored to avoid mistakes of assuming it is open. But many house guests still bump their face on the colored glass door.

It did hurt a lot. We had a sticker on the door to alert others that it was glass, but I removed it years ago. Eventually, we will put in different doors. I have no idea what’s out there.

@Alexandoy I’ll have to find out if our condo association would approve. Whatever we put in must be hurricane proof, and I must be able to see Orville the osprey clearly.

As long as it's not severe @DianneN Maybe put some appliques on the doors to make it more noticable

@DianneN It happens to everyone sometimes, to think about something else and not pay attention to where we are going. In the house it's easy to get distracted because we know our way around easily and I guess in your mind the door was open and you didn't think about it twice.

My husband is the only one else who would enter the bedroom from the door, and he’s not as impulsive or as stupid as I am. We took the decal off years ago, because it ruined our view of Orville the osprey. I’ll be fine soon. Thanks!

Ouch Dianne! You need to be more careful! But, I can't say that I have never done that myself. Of course, I was more embarrassed than hurt, because the two times I can remember doing it, were both times when there was large gatherings at my house.

Ouch! It really hurts. I know. I had the same experience hitting my face in a glass window but it was the glass window of a jewelry shop when I went shopping with my friend in the city ages ago. Better put a red sticker on your glass door so you will see if it is close or not. I am glad you are not seriously hurt.
