A minor repair? Or a major repair?

This is my Fishman guitar amplifier. It cost me about $600. It is the amplifier I use for live gigs when I play acoustic guitar. Recently, on a whim, I decided to check the Phillips screws that attach the carrying handle to the amplifier. The amplifier weights about 30 lbs. I found that the screws had worked themselves loose. A few more gigs and I might have found myself with a $600 amplifier crashing to the ground. I would have been frustrated and might have uttered an oath. I used my Phillips screwdriver (shown) to tighten them down, and hope not to have an amplifier disaster. Do you ever do "preventive" maintenance on stuff around your house?

We do from time to time. We've even been known to check our tools, oil wood handles, etc.

I do the same up in Montana. My ax is on its last legs.

@TheHorse A bit of maintenance can add years to some things. Our trailer had a few bits of rust so we painted it with a rust-preventative stuff. It all helps to delay the need for replacement.

I played music gigs for many years and have never had any issues with equipment screws coming loose. Now as far as my band members were concerned, they all had more than a few loose screws. lol. That's why I fired all of them and continued playing solo! Yes, my husband and I try to do preventative maintenance in and around our home.

@TheHorse I guess I'm not the only one who had to deal with musicians with "personality issues". Be careful with the bleach. Don't get overcome with fumes. Cute video.

I do too. Right now I'm giving my kitchen sink a "bleach job." Many musicians have loose screws. I don't know if you're interested, but I quit this band because the band leader (a rookie accordion player) was too bossy. She has an undiagnosed anxiety disorder.

Unfortunately no. I used to have active speakers.

@yanzalong Ah, you could use it for either. Why did you get rid of it?

Was that for a musical instrument? Or for your stereo or computer?

I would put teflon tape on the screw threads to make it hold much longer and prevent working themselves loose if I may suggest. I can't count the number of things I do maintenance work on around the house, I do almost everything when it comes to maintaining.

@TheHorse it's what plumbers use on faucet and piping threads, yes it would stop from working their way loose. What's nice about it is it could be used on any type of screw size, it could also slightly fix screws that are lose thread already, they work the same way old fashioned plumbers used cotton threads on threads before teflon tapes were invented ( if you know or remember that) they are also heat resistant cause teflon has automotive uses.

Tell me more about teflon tape. Does it keep screws from working their way loose?

@TheHorse I have the same problem with our front door. This summer I remove the screws, fill the holes with some wood paste and I change the screws with a couple of longer screws.

Do some work their way loose? I'm tightening down my front door hinges all the time.

Nope, nothing around my apartment needs maintenance. My most precious object is my PC and as long as it works I am just fine. Oh, yes, I just remembered I do need to have a pot lid screwed back on but no screwdriver. Well that is not so important. I am glad you got your amplifier all fixed up again

@TheHorse my problem is that is I buy anything it has to come from online. I have nothing but my two feet to get around. transportation is unreliable and I am surrounded by convenience stores and fast food places

Not me but my brother who is a mechanical engineer takes care of all that. The other day he replaced the bearings for the sliding door to my cool cake counter otherwise the doors would have refused to move.
