Just Call Me Sharon Osbourne! (A Tale of Botched Hair Color)

A few days ago, I read a very relatable 2-part story by @Hate2Iron, about getting a new haircut that she hated. That's happened to me, but more recently, it was a botched hair coloring. I went to a local cosmetology school. I'd been there several times before for haircuts, pedicures, manicures. I like supporting students. I'm a natural red-head. I'm in my mid 50's and I've been coloring it for several years now. I like a light to medium auburn, which is close to what I had pre-dye days. It works well with my fair skin. I realize that bright colors of the rainbow are "in" for many women these days, especially for those of my kids' generation. I tend to be more conservative than trendy- preferring classic, natural colors/styles. So...I asked the colorist to just cover the grays and brighten the tone a little, nothing drastic please. I ended up with BURGUNDY hair!! My nickname could have been Sharon Osbourne for a few days. Every time I looked in the mirror, I scared myself! To my relief, I was able to "fix" it at home. My 29 year old daughter and a few others liked the new hue and said I looked younger. But I just could not adjust. I was able to laugh about it. Ah, this too shall pass! And it did. (Pic was taken in Nov. 2018, right after my hair appointment. Talk about a bad hair day, and week! )

@BloggerDi I bet you were. I am lucky that I get the color that is closest to my hair when I color mine.

They say there is only six weeks between a good and a bad haircut. Maybe that applies too, to hair colouring although you did say you had fixed yours.

@BloggerDi I wouldn't be keen on too bright - especially if it were burgundy.

After only a week, I was still saying "AH!!" with horror every time I caught a reflection of myself! Well, I'm being a little dramatic, but knew I was too uncomfortable to let it stay like that. It was especially bright out in sunlight. Thanks @JudyEv.

Sharon always looks great and you do too in this pic. Red hair is usually accompanied by a feisty or fiery nature. I will bear this in mind in future.

Thank you. It was certainly a shock @CarolDM, and I won't go back there for hair coloring, that's for sure.
