Checking out.

A guess if we think about it, anything can become a story. We shopped today. We had really nice cashiers at both stores. First we shopped at Wal Mart, and got most of my list. Our cashier was being particular about how she bagged our items. I told her just to put as much as she could in every bag. I would not yell at her. She said she considered it to be a good day if she could get through and entire day without anyone yelling at her. Makes me wonder what this world is coming to, if being yelled at is a part of her every day. At the grocery store we got in a fairly short line. We listened as the cashier talked with the first person in line. She was recommending that she go to her car and eat an orange to raise her blood sugar. I guess she was having some issues. It was nice of the cashier to care. I have heard often about bad cashiers and poor customer service. Perhaps we should give them a hand more often.

A cashier who still bags items? Here, it's do it yourself.

Here it is expected although at times I would rather do it myself.

@noni1959 I avoid self checkout as much as possible because I always seem to cause it to malfunction.

Depends on the store here. Self-check out lanes you bag on your own and some stores like Food Max you bag. Safeway, Fred Meyer, ROTH etc you have it done for you.

I've heard people being ruthless, to cashiers in a store! One time a lady turned her shopping cart upside down, breaking glass items all over the floor! Then, she stormed out of the store:( They should have called the police

I agree with you. I believe the majority of cashiers and customer service personnel are doing the best they can and do not deserve being yelled at. There's no reason for anyone to yell at another person, there are other ways to deal with someone if they are rude to you.

I've overheard cashiers yelled at for an item ringing up wrong and recently one asked if the customer had their own bags or wanted to purchase one. That customer yelled they were not paying for a bag and didn't have one and if they can't get one free they expected the person who would bag the groceries to carry everything out to their car. After holding up the line demanding, the manager came over and gave them a couple bags free. I would have told them no and not return to the store.

I read stuff from a website called "Not Always Right" and these types of managers just encourage bad behavior.

I'm sure some cashiers have some awful people to deal with from time to time.

Sometimes a little grumpy or spacey, but really not bad. It could be because my husband is supremely nice to people and I am sort of intuitive and can connect. I read a lot of horror stories about bad service, but it does not seem to happen to us.

There are plenty of good workers. But slso plenty of bad ones. I like to compliment the good ones, as they deserve to know they're doing good and stuff. But then we mostly do self Checkout

I could never do that job. Too much verbal abuse, and I might lose it. I cannot imagine treating a cashier badly - that's a tough job.

The times I have tried self-checkout it seems the machine is always out to get me. Oh, and I talk back to them.

Those kinds of cashiers are the greatest, they actually care about the customers. Some of them don't greet you or speak to you. They look tired and distracted. They probably did not get enough sleep and wonder why you are in their dream.

I had not thought of it that way. Often the cashiers are often students as well, or even working two jobs.

@GardenGerty That is true. Plus they are underpaid and overworked.
