Machine Gun Fire

I kid you NOT. I am sitting here MyLotting and all of a sudden, somewhere off in the distance I am hearing machine gun fire. Literally. I am former military and I know what it sounds like.
And it is definitely a military weapon. There are a couple of "common areas' nearby. But I cannot imagine where it could be coming from. We do have a lot of farm fields around here as well.
I hope it is nothing. But it just seems VERY odd to hear it ESPECIALLY considering this kind of weapon is ILLEGAL.
And now I am hearing single shot fire.
I REALLY hope there is nothing horrible happening right now but I may just have to turn on the news for a second to make sure. I usually don't get worried. It just seems terribly unusual.

@marguicha I think it actually IS. If you think about it, what's more humane? The way we slaughter animals in mass production for food, or going out and hunting the land? And at the same time it connects us with the animal world, and the bounty they provide and makes us appreciate all of it more. When you go to the grocery store and buy a pound of hamburger you rarely think of the cow. You rarely think of what the cow went through to wind up on your plate. You rarely think about the method of the kill which is very dramatic actually.
When we are removed from the process and the how, of how our food becomes our food, we become very disconnected with the animal world and life in general.
So hunting not only provides valuable perspective on life. It provides a certain respect for all things living and makes you appreciate it more when you do eat these animals.

Scary...but it could just be someone trying out a new "toy". There are a lot of gunshots out where we are in the semi-country.

@DocAndersen No. Certainly not. I mean, there ARE a lot of farms around. MAYBE a farmer has an automatic weapon. BUT they are also certainly illegal...so...not sure.
