Do you still have to lick stamps where you live?

I was paying a bill this morning and realized, as I was attaching the stamp, that I haven't licked stamps in years. Now that I think about it, I have no recollection of when the US Postal Service stared using no-lick stamps. Didn't George's lesbian finacee die from licking stamps in a famous Seinfeld episode? That would mean the change occurred in the last 15 or 20 years. Anyway, do you still lick stamps when you send things by snail mail?

Now that you mentioned it, it has been a while since I licked a stamp. Now they need to do the same for all envelopes.

@just4him I hope you don't die from licking them, like the Seinfeld character.

No, I have never licked stamps. In fact there is invisible glue on the back of the stamps today. You just need to put a little water on the stamps and everything will be done. And it is really no need to lick it and it is not hygienic, too.

Water? American stamps need no water. You just peel and stick.

I don´t send anything by snail mail now. But when I did, you could either buy stamps or have the office print the amount. I chose real stamps when writing to special friends.

Thankfully, no need to lick stamps or even envelopes now. I hated doing that. I never licked with my tongue though. I licked my finger and then used that on the stamp or envelope. No way was my tongue gonna touch anything.

He. I never thought of that. I licked away. When did licked stamps go the way of the dodo bird?

No, we've had self-stick stamps for quite some time. I guess the post office got wise to people soaking off uncancelled stamps and reusing them. The self-stick ones don't come off so easily.

As another MyLotter pointed out it was actually the envelops that killed George's fiancee. My bad! The stinky car episode is another of my favorites.

As an old fart, I find that decades become years. I honestly can't remember when our basic stamps became peel and apply.
