1565 - The city of Rio de Janeiro is founded.
1790 - The first U. S. census is authorized.
1944 - Roger Daltrey was born. He is an English singer, actor and film producer. Daltrey is the founder and lead singer for the Who. "Pinball Wizard" was one of their big hits. The Who sold more than 100 million records worldwide. Daltrey started his solo career in 1973 while still with the Who. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990 and into the UK Music Hall of Fame in 2005.
1954 - Ron Howard was born. He is an American actor, director and producer. He started his career as a child. From 1960-1968 he appeared as Opie Taylor in The Andy Griffith Show on TV and appeared in the movie The Music Man in 1962. In 1973 he appeared in American Graffiti and from 1974-1980 made a big splash as Richie Cunningham in Happy Days. Howard was inducted into the Television Hall of Fame in 2013.
