My Search for Toilet Paper

Yesterday I mentioned running to town to the dollar store to pick up some toilet paper since I only had one 9 roll package in the house. I didn't want a lot or to stock up but since the shelves are emptying at an alarming rate, I wanted an extra package. Did I get it? The answer to that question is yes and no. I did not get a large package of toilet paper the store was totally wiped out of toilet paper. I did pick up an extra package of paper towels if worst comes to worst. And I decided to look on the $1 aisle and found two 4 packs of toilet paper. These two packages were the last in the store of the highly sought after toilet paper rolls. I got them just to have a few extra rolls. Mission completed. I do not plan on going out to any stores this week. The cases of the Corona Virus tripled overnight in Louisiana and we will be staying home and away from germs. Mississippi has fewer cases but you never know when the numbers will go up. The whole thing is just nuts, including the entire scare and panic of something that is not even that deadly. But people are people. Glad you found a few extra rolls to get you through.

@porwest I agree and just a little over 3,000 confirmed cases. Just heard that on Fox.

@porwest I have several autoimmune problems but I know to keep myself away from crowds and public. I think that is the main thing. It seems like there are more and more closings every time you hear the news.

One of my family members (The HOH) told us last night "No, don't get anymore paper towels or toilet paper" ... We have six rolls of toilet paper and four of paper towels. I told him that we may not be able to get anymore with the alarming rate it seems to be falling off of American shelves. Did he care? Nope! "We'll just have to deal with it then." I can't wait to tell him "I told you so!" I figure if I don't see any TP on the shelves, I'll grab for the kleenex and hope that there is plenty of that still in stock.

I did notice that there was plenty of Kleenex on the shlf last night. It's only a matter of time before that is gone too.

@ScribbledAdNauseum That is why I picked up a 6 pack of paper towels....just in case. Not going back out there this week if at all possible.

@kareng I am sure you are right. If push comes to shove, I'll buy some vivia (soft) paper towels... IF those are gone too.

Honestly we don't use toilet paper in our house. People here are buying a lot of bleach or chlorine maybe disinfecting their homes

My pantry is well stocked as always. Hubs was out and about last week and came across a package in one store and another in a different store, so now I’m set. In an emergency we have tons of Kleenex. I’m glad your mission was completed! We had our last meal at a restaurant tonight. Luckily, we were able to eat outdoors where I felt more comfortable.

Yep, I'm good here and not going out for a couple of weeks. I canceled my mom's cardiologist appointment since there are some cased in Baton Rouge now and over a hundred have been tested so not going to sit in a waiting room that a dozen or so doctors have patients waiting in who are all elderly for the majority.

@DianneN I think so. All she needed was her blood pressure meds refilled and we did that by phone the week before. So no use in wasting time and going in.

I have enough toilet paper to last a month or more. No, I didn't stock up. I bought a 12 roll pack when I ran out a month or so ago and that lasts me a while. I still have seven rolls. I'm sorry the virus tripled in the last few days.

The numbers are going up a lot every day. It's very alarming. You better pick up another 12 pack next time you go out.

I don't need TP at the moment, but noticed the shelves were bare of most paper products. Some overpriced paper towels remained. Some guy on FB felt he hit the lottery because he got a 24 pack of Angel Soft. Geez, please make a PSA about toliet paper hoarding!

I wouldn't consider him to be a hoarder with just one package. It's the people who go through the line with 4 or more who have caused this panic and sell out.

@snowy22315 Oh I didn't think that you thought I was a hoarder. Those buying cases and cases of stuff are the ones causing the problems. Stores need to put a limit on how many of each you can buy right now.

As my daughters (and grandchildren) decided to stay at home, I think I have enough toilet paper for my own needs. When Claudia came with her kids all day when she split with Sofía´s father, the kids used one roll every day on their small butts I use much less.

I'm stocked up on toilet paper (no, I didn't hoard it, I just bought my normal amount), Lysol spray, and Chlorox disinfectant. I have no food in the house, but I'm good on cleaning supplies. My son and I are heading out on a long backpacking trip in a couple of days, so I was going to wait to grocery shop until we got back from that trip. But now I'm starting to think that I should grocery shop now before all the food is completely gone. If I wait until we get back next week, there may not be anything left!

That is true. I was going to do online pick up and about half of the items listed were "out of stock." Then after an hour of getting/finding all I needed, start checkout and get that message that no time slots are available for today or tomorrow. Fixing to resubmit since the 2nd day is now today. See if it changed after midnight. This sucks!

@moffittjc That is happening here. Bread is hard to come by. I just ordered two new loaf pans and plan on baking bread. I managed to get toilet paper today, and only because the manager gave me a heads up as to when the next shipment was coming in. They limit you to 3 packages. I just got 2 -12 packs. We are good now for a couple of weeks. I bought extra in the flour, sugar, rice and some beans for "just in case it gets that bad."

That is all I plan or planned on doing. I don't intend to go back to Walmart for some time. And definitely not this week. I think the man may break down around Thursday for diet cokes. He will probably be hitting a store in town before venturing off to Walmart. I'm not into grocery shopping as if it was Black Friday. No thanks.

Yep we have limits on everything here too. I made a run today to the Dollar General and they were still out of toilet paper. They did have one pack on the shelf but it is a brand I don't like at all. If we were almost out, I would have gotten it, but we are good.
