Why do so many posts get no responses at all?

I have just been going down the list of "Discussions With No Response" and am amazed to see how long the list is, and how far back it goes - at least a couple of weeks. I seem to remember in the past that this list never had more than three or four items on it, and there were often times when it was completely empty. I wonder why things have changed in this respect?

My recollection is that the list was always pretty variable. Of course, very recent posts often appear at the top but disappear as soon as they get a response. From time to time, especially in the old days (pre-2013), a number of people set themselves the task of responding to as many "D-w/o-R" as possible because there used to be a (very small) premium for being the first to respond to a discussion. Now, of course, one earns nothing for responding unless the DO (or someone else) comments on your response. I notice that there are currently 10 discussions listed from just 6 users. In some, the text is simply a statement which seems to require no comment, others are, perhaps, a little obscure and it may be a little hard to see what the writer is getting at. A lot of people will give that sort of post a miss.

Some good points there. I tend to go through the list from time to time "pour encourager les autres". I just like to see what replies I get.

@indexer Wouldn’t it be so ironic if no-one responded to your post. We did.

Do you know - I was almost hoping for that? I love copper-bottomed irony!

Were there any interesting discussions there?

That depends entirely on what you mean by interesting! Personally, I am not all that sold on religious texts and poems, or on links to pop/rock videos, but that is what tends to get left at the bottom of the barrel.

@indexer I just looked at the list. If nobody responds then it means that most people are not interested in what we posted.

@kanuck1 Given that you don't get any reward simply for posting, but from the responses people make, it is surprising to me that some posts are clearly unlikely to get anyone interested in saying anything!

maybe they could not understand the topic and don't know how to respond to it

I am guilty not to have checked that list, but I am going to check. I cannot imagine the reason.

@indexer I went there and I read some and well... I really had nothing to say. I skipped the one about Bible lessons because I never read those ones, the others were meaningless.

I can see that some posts are not all that easy to reply to!

May be for those who saw it, the discussion wasn't just interesting for them to respond at all.

I used to check that list but I always got technical troubles opening it, so I dropped. Years ago, on old Mylot, I always checked that list

Mylot use to have categories, when the categories are still around its easier for people to find people who shares the same niche interest but all of that got ruined when its replaced by tags. One more thing majority of Mylot members are moms and discussions that dont appeal to moms flops here.

I have to admit I rarely go there nowadays. I'm too busy reading and responding to those I'm following.

I think people have less time to read presently.

Maybe they are the ones who don't interact with others on regular basis

maybe the timing people are posting or they are not relating to the post ?

Not sure. I guess I will have to have a look there. I hardly ever go to that part of the site.
