I believe we need more than lock down period now

On 1st March, 2020, I had said 2 months straight lock down. I was, of course, talking about my country then. Much has changed since then. Back then, there were only 3 cases, and now we have more than 606. You will say, it is because we are conducting more tests now. Even so, a total shut down back then or even before Delhi riots around February 23, 2020, would have prevented any Indian from dying. India, after all had its first COVID-19 case on January, 30, 2020. Had we locked down, immediately, we would not have faced Delhi riots. We would also have prevented the current stage of infection, which I believe is understated. 606 infections? A realistic picture would be 10000. Going forward, will 21 days help. I believe it will help some. But if we want it to be defeated, as our Prime Minister says, it will require more lock downs, and testing of EVERYBODY till the country has no virus for 21 consecutive days. Its a huge task, requiring lots of resources. But I believe that is the only way this thing can be outwitted.

I had thoughts also that the current 21 day ECQ or likely a lockdown would be extended before it will end. Here, the Health Department projected 75000 infection within 3 months. As of now we"re close to 700 yet and like you, I believe there are more when tested.

I would hate if government chooses short cut for economic reasons.

A virus like this one will be hard to overcome given the nature of the human animal. Being confined never sits well with people.

Agree, lockdown is really required. The main problem is people who are running from hospital. I really don't know how government can teach them.

It is so silly to do that. They run, infect, and return with cough fever and breathlessness. By then, many more would be around for treatment, and hospital beds may not be available. So they would lose the golden opportunity to be cured and live.

That ain't happening. Because if it does, a few days after it will resurface again. So far it is not known that people who get it become immune to it. 80 percent don't need any treatment so whether they will become susceptible to serious version is also not known. The only way this virus can be bid goodbye is lock downs, and testing everybody till 21 days there are no cases. For now, that is how it should be till vaccines are developed.

@vandana7 Thankfully our states can still keep lock downs in place over what the president wants. And many have said they will.

People are so worked up. Many at this end have hand to mouth existence. They are seriously stressed out mentally. I wonder if they will be able to hang on for three successive lock downs of 21 days each, because that is how much time I think it will take India to close COVID-19 chapter for this time.

We now have 61,900 cases and are in lockdown. I don't know how long this lockdown will last. Schools, restaurants, etc. are all closed except for take-out from restaurants.

The positive results can only be noticed after 14 days lock down. Most people don't have patience to wait until then.
