We bought take-away yesterday

The photo has nothing to do with the post but is of one of the dining areas on the Queen Mary 2.
Quite late yesterday afternoon, we went to our local supermarket. A girl wiped down our trolley and there were hand-wipes at the door. Some shelves were empty, noticeably flour and soap, but mostly we got what we wanted.
We decided to pick up fish and chips from the local store as it was almost time for dinner. Only three were allowed in the shop and there were crosses to mark the best places to stand. Chairs lined up outside for any overflow of customers were a good two metres apart. Vince said a box in front of the counter meant you couldn’t put your hands or arms on the counter. As meals were ready, the girl brought them out to those waiting in their cars. So it was all very civilised and we were quite impressed. However, something up set my stomach and I ended up going to bed early.

@JudyEv They consider that food "touched" by people other than you is unsafe, because most people do not re-heat the food at enough high temperature. The restaurants and bars were all already closed the 12th of May. We can always buy frozen ready made food and place in the oven.

@JudyEv everything here is picked over pretty heavily, but I expect that will keep easing up

Greasy chips? That happens to me, or it's too many chips. I rarely have fish and chips now, but occasionally I give in to the smell of vinegar and buy some. Strange things is I don't have vinegar on mine but I love the smell.
I can resist anything except temptation.
Hope you're feeling better now........greedy guts.

@JudyEv Hey, I'm sorry to hear about the nasty reaction.
I wonder what it can be? I thought fish and chips was a basic dish with very little ingredients. Fish, chips, oil, and batter. Must be something they add to the batter then?

That's not very nice.
I didn't put it in my post but I also came up in welts and my lips started tingling. It's happened before and must be an allergy to an additive that they use. Anyway, I probably won't have fish and chips from there again. Which is a great shame. You take care.

@Orson_Kart Someone suggested it might be something they cooked in the oil previously. Once it happened after eating at a Chinese restaurant; once at an outdoor music festival where I'd had a seafood type dish. We have prawns at home quite often and I have scallops, squid and mussels without any problem. I thought MSG was banned now but perhaps it isn't so maybe it's that. The only worry is if the allergy intensifies with each exposure. But I'm fine now. Thanks for the sympathy.

I saw someone at at the supermarket wiping down her area. I have never seen anyone wipe down a trolley before and have not seen handi-wipes at the door.
They are putting things to separate the customers from them. Did you find out what upset your stomach?

@JudyEv The first store I stopped at all of the employees were wearing gloves also. They are really trying to help protect everyone. The store was providing the gloves for them.

It's interesting that, being on the other side of the world, your restaurants are taking the exact same steps as our restaurants. Or maybe our restaurants are doing the same thing as yours! Anyway, you just described perfectly the setup at the restaurant my daughter and I visited yesterday, except instead of fish and chips we had chicken tenders and waffle fries. The only difference was, your chairs were all 2 meters apart, while our chairs were 6.56168 feet apart. Otherwise, everything was the exact same!
Oh, and sorry to hear you didn't feel well afterward. I hope you are all better now.

@JudyEv It's important that we do our part to help these restaurants survive this pandemic.

Sorry your fish and chips didn't set well. I'm glad to hear that restaurants are practicing safety precautions.

we did the same thing, except not fish and chips. I was impressed by how effective the restaurant was at keeping people apart!

@DocAndersen Yes and now even really big concerns are closing down - but only for the moment. The smaller ones might be battling to start up again.

We were blown away by the opulence. Unlike anything we'd ever seen or been party to.

I've been getting more takeout food than normal. I'm trying to support some of our local eateries...and I'm a bit lazy. I hope you feel better!

I'm fine now thanks. Small businesses are going to find it really difficult. It's good of you to support them.

We've decided to put takeout on hold until everything settles back down.
