We're going to have a dinner party

We’re fed up with the social isolation so we’re going to have a dinner party. It’s Vince’s birthday on Easter Saturday. He catches up to me and will be 73. I thought I was marrying a toyboy but something went wrong. So we thought we’d celebrate. It will give us something to look forward to. We’ll probably have some hors d’oeuves with champagne to start with. Entrée will be prawn cocktails, then chicken schnitzel with baked vegetables. We haven’t decided on dessert yet but maybe yummy bavarois. What do you think? Does it sound good? What a pity it will just be the two of us.

This sounds excellent, I made chicken schnitzel yesterday for dinner, is something we love. I will toast to Vince on Saturday and we are going to make a virtual party with the two of you. I could copy your same menu.

And you might also connect via Skype or Zoom (as I suggested above) if you exchange contacts and can arrange a suitable time across time zones!

What a lovely idea, Anna. And a very kind thought. We may not be able to eat at the same time as it seems we are six hours ahead of you. But we can toast each other as we are able.

@judyev Ah yes, that's an excellent menu. Bavarois can be a really good light dessert after a main meal. But what will you be drinking, other than the champagne?

A good Donnybrook (WA) SSB and Vince will probably have merlot. I might have a Baileys' to finish up with.

I like the idea of a dinner party. I went to the pub the other night with about 30 other people and we had a great time. Of course, we were all really sitting in the comfort of our own homes and logging on together with a very easy little app called Zoom which makes conferencing easy. You could do the same for your dinner party with phone, tablet or laptop on the table and a few friends doing the same thing. They'd have to do their own meal and provide their own drinks, of course, but you could see them and talk to them as you eat. They could even duplicate your menu!

What a great time you would have had chatting with so many friends. Zoom is the buzz word at the moment. It seems it's being used for everything. Thanks for the great suggestion.

Yeah, it is a pity to have no guests because a party is not exactly for the celebrant but more for the guests. I would love to attend but I'm sorry that I have other commitments for Easter, waheehee. Seriously, tomorrow is Palm Sunday but it will be just an ordinary day.

Sounds brilliant idea to me. A way to spoil lucky Vince. Are you going to be doing all the cooking or just helping him with the champagne!

@JudyEv He sounds just like me! Even for my own birthday, I have to do the cooking! (I will sometimes let the wife do a roast chicken, though). Trouble is, I'm often so exhausted by the effort that I have no appetite afterwards. Never mind, I enjoy seeing other people appreciate the food.

@owlwings As you are well aware most of the most prestigious chefs are of course men! We rest our case although I do not think the little trinket @JudyEv gets to nurse the bottle of Champers! The chef should get first quaff!

Bavarois is a bit like panna cotta or perhaps a mousse. It's basically egg and milk thickened with gelatine with whipped cream folded in.
