I wrote about two red-capped parrots that visited the birdbath this morning. They were just settling in for a bath when this ring-necked parrot came homing in. It was a lucky shot to catch him at this moment.
The ring-neck parrot is also called the ‘twenty-eight' from its call. Their fancy name is Barnardius zonarius and they are classified as a large parrot. They are very common around here. I was pretty pleased with this photo but it was just a lucky fluke.

Good shot, birds in flight are the hardest to capture.
I've only seen one parrot that happened to partake of mom's apples decades ago, it was an African Ring Necked parrot which mom accidentally caught while munching on her prized apples. She kept the poor thing in a cage for a couple of years before we finally convinced her to let him go. He was beautiful and I never got a photo of him.

@JudyEv I always figured I'd find a reputable breeder, or adopt one who needed a home after their owner passed or something

@Jessicalynnt Have you researched them? Some are incredibly noisy as in screechy.

The best shots are often lucky ones.

That's pretty neat that you have wild parrots in Australia. They're not common here in the US, although in south Florida they seem to have taken up residence in small numbers (probably escapes or releases from captivity).

We don't have hummingbirds here but other myLotters have put up some great photos of them.

Thanks. I had no idea I was taking it really. I was waiting for the red-caps to come to the water then this one lobbed in. Sometimes you just get lucky.

How cool! Don’t you love those “lightning in a bottle” shots? Most of our parrots are in cages here, as pets. We may have wild parrots in America, but I wouldn’t have a clue where they’d be (other than at a Jimmy Buffett concert
).
