Make way – coming in

I wrote about two red-capped parrots that visited the birdbath this morning. They were just settling in for a bath when this ring-necked parrot came homing in. It was a lucky shot to catch him at this moment. The ring-neck parrot is also called the ‘twenty-eight' from its call. Their fancy name is Barnardius zonarius and they are classified as a large parrot. They are very common around here. I was pretty pleased with this photo but it was just a lucky fluke.

So what you're saying is you were taking a photo of the bird bath and the parrot photo-bombed you!

These parrots love to have a really good bath. They take ages and dip their shoulders and heads right in.

Good shot, birds in flight are the hardest to capture. I've only seen one parrot that happened to partake of mom's apples decades ago, it was an African Ring Necked parrot which mom accidentally caught while munching on her prized apples. She kept the poor thing in a cage for a couple of years before we finally convinced her to let him go. He was beautiful and I never got a photo of him.

The poor parrot was terrified of all of us so mom would try to keep us away for his sake @JudyEv I always felt sorry for that poor bird.

What a shame you didn't get a photo of it. I thought I was photographing the red-caps when this guy bombed my photo!

@rebelann Some never get tame. Others might get tame if they are taken captive young enough.

It's a great photo! I've never been able to take a picture of a bird. From my balcony, they are too far away.

@JudyEv I think it's wonderful because you caught the movement of the bird.

@JudyEv I always figured I'd find a reputable breeder, or adopt one who needed a home after their owner passed or something

@Jessicalynnt Have you researched them? Some are incredibly noisy as in screechy.

Some of the parrots don't tame very well but others do.

@judyev That’s amazing. I don’t think a crowd of excited parrots could be referred to as a gallimaufry of small birds.

No, they're not really confused enough. We'd want more species before we had a gallimaufry. I think I've committed the word to memory now.

That's pretty neat that you have wild parrots in Australia. They're not common here in the US, although in south Florida they seem to have taken up residence in small numbers (probably escapes or releases from captivity).

GREAT for lucky flukes. In the spring here, now, of course, we have visitors passing through for a few weeks. Hummingbirds are back, such wonderful creatures.

How cool! Don’t you love those “lightning in a bottle” shots? Most of our parrots are in cages here, as pets. We may have wild parrots in America, but I wouldn’t have a clue where they’d be (other than at a Jimmy Buffett concert ).

When you've seen them flying wild in great mobs it hurts a bit to see them in cages although many adapt quite well.
