Is the police doing their job?

Good evening friends
Today was a quiet day here. I didn't do much work, I mowed the yard of the house my brother bought, I worked around his computers and now I'm here.
Tonight, people from my village caught a thief, before police arrived, several of them beat him up. They were also caught two nights ago, taken away by police and released the next day. I think that annoyed the people here, so I hope they keep the thief in jail. I love it when people are in solidarity.
Are the people there united, in solidarity?

Sorry for the thieving that happens in your community.
Here in my country, I do believe that somehow, we have gotten rid of that. People are not so worried any more if they have have left a thing or two somewhere. The little people have come to know that they can't just get what is not theirs. That said, our problem is the subtle thieving of the powerful people corrupting us of our hard-earned money.

@Nevena83 First, we gave dignity to our children by giving them free education. The schools were rebuilt, too, with laboratories and libraries. That excited the children and to school they went, instead of wasting time elsewhere.
The parents who were unschooled and earned their daily wages as laundry women, domestic helps, jeepney and tricycle drivers did see the difference. Tuition fee was off their back, so they only had to fend for food.
The media capitalized on the small successes, like a father graduating together with his son, because they both enrolled in first grade at the same time.
Now the people value their work, even if one is a sanitary personnel at the airport. No amount of money in a bag that was left behind can tempt an employee. He or she would return the bag to the owner.
It's the ones in white collar who are not honest.

Police aren't exactly popular in my country right now. There are a lot of reports of police brutality and harassment here in the Philippines.

@Nevena83 there were instances of police beating up people because they didn't wear a mask.

That's sad. They act as if there is no law, I do not understand what their job is for.

Such is the law here, Nevena. they are taken to the station, registered and released ... what to do with them? Give them three meals a day for free, so you know how many thieves they make daily. After a certain number they close, but not immediately, unless it is a specific situation and a difficult theft..
