Mickey and Tinker are scared of horses. I have mentioned that we are a very small town. Small enough that from time to time people go out riding their horses around town. I think that an old guy is trying to help a younger guy learn a bit before going on a mountain trip, or whatever. At any rate, they keep circling past our house. Not doing anything wild, just walking their horses and having (socially distanced) conversations. My cats like to be out when I am. I propped the doors open so that they can go in and out. Every time the horses and riders come around Tinker gives that low throaty growl and they both leave their sunshiny spots and skulk into the house and to one of the dark rooms and "hide". It is a bit funny. When I was a kid my mom "won" a Shetland pony in a sales contest for her direct marketing company. We kept "Pale Moon" in the back yard. One of our Siamese cats took a dislike to him and would run and jump on him and panic him into a fast run around the property. I would say that cat was not afraid of horses at all.

Fancy winning a Shetland pony. Some cats aren't afraid of anything.

Yeah, there is somewhat more to that story. Her name was drawn, but in order to actually get the registered shetland pony she had to meet some pretty high sales goals. I do not remember a whole lot as I was about seven years old at the time.

@JudyEv I am not sure for how long. My parents sold it so they could buy a car. A Studebaker. No way was she ever going to let me and my younger siblings ride it. It was not even old enough to saddle break. It was more like having a big dog in our back yard.

Yes, they likely are. I am sure these horses were oblivious to the kitties in my yard.

Princess, my other cat, would just ignore them. After all, they were on the street and she was not. Tinker, although he is big, is still quite a baby.

That is funny. I had a cat that slept on one of our horses. She was often curled up on the horses back.

I have seen pictures of similar. She must have grown up around horses.

yeah. It was a sales push. Not sure why the Shetland pony. Of course she is gone now and dad has Alzheimer's so he could not tell me. Mom, and dad too, from time to time, sold Stanley Home Products. After her name was drawn she had to sell a certain large amount to actually win. I would have said "why bother" as it was not something we wanted or needed. He was young colt. My older sister, who cannot tell the truth to save herself says she did all the sales and that SHE named him blah blah blah.

@GardenGerty yeah, that is a really strange thing to 'win', and Ive never heard of a contest where you qualified to win,but then had to sell to win. Usually you sell, then get into a bowl to be drawn from

Okay. I never saw an episode like that, but I suppose it is something that could well have happened on it.

Somewhere on the internet there's a video of a cat who regularly rides a horse... English saddle and all. Found it:

I will check it out. I have seen similar. Maybe that was why Tinker's reaction surprised me.

Our cat that would jump on the pony was also a Siamese. I owned a cat once that liked to ride in the bicycle basket.

Our neighbors had horses. My dog barked at them only when they set foot in our yard.

That is pretty cool that your dog knew they were okay if they were not in the yard.

Well, the kitties knew they had a safe place to be. There were four in this horse group and they were nice looking animals.
