In Appreciation Of Doctors and Nurses

Today we went to the doctors for my better half to see the nurse practitioner. We were checked at the door for a fever and answered questions about where we have been and if we were exposed to the virus. We had our masks on and so did the nurse. She asked questions about my better half's health and so on. But while we were there she sneezed twice. She had on a mask but it still worries me a little. We went on to the lab to get his blood work and the place has a lot of people waiting. Chairs were marked where we should sit to keep our distance and we were there a short time. I really feel bad for the doctors and nurses. They work long hours and with contagious people. It has to be hard for them to go home and be fearful for their own health and for their families. Doctors, nurses and grocery store workers deserve all the credit. We are thankful they stay on the job taking care of the rest of us.

@jobelbojel This is terrible. I cannot but think that there were not enough safety measures there as there are not enough safety measures for health workers in other parts of the planet.

Yes they are. When I was a caregiver I watched out for sick people and kept them away from mine. I have not worn a mask at all.....

A lot of people aren't wearing a mask but the number of sick people are so high and the virus spreads so easily. It's scary.

@Hannihar I’ve hoped our Governor would step up but it seems stores are taking it in their own hands and insist on masks. I’m glad.

@just4him Yes, I had to go to the lab to have blood drawn today and they proceeded the same way. Nobody gets past the front door without being checked.

I wouldn't be worried about her sneezing. You were all wearing masks. So shouldn't be a problem. Those are important people, nurses and doctors especially.

@RubyHawk fingers crossed. Cleaners are important too. Without them, we'd all be sick.

@Coutney My thoughts exactly. We'd be in a pickle without doctors and nurses and cleaners. We mustn't forget the people who do the cleaning.

The work that doctors and nurses do to risk their lives to cure us of illnesses is priceless.

@Deepizzaguy Our doctors are having to take a 20 percent reduction of their salary. I know it's true because my better halfs doctor told us so.

@RubyHawk I agree all those on the front lines deserve for us to say thank you to them for all they have done to help those or be in the line of fire. Thank you for this post Ruby.

If we could do something to help them out I'd be happy but all we can do right now is appreciate what they are doing. It's hard for me to imagine going to work and being fearful of bring a disease home to my children. They must have those feelings every time they go in to work.

@Hannihar Every time we go by a hospital I see a big sign thanking our heroes. A few days ago Planes took off form Dobbins Air Force base to swoop down over all the hospitals in the vicinity. I thought that was a good way to show our appreciation.

@RubyHawk I cannot afford to donate money. I am waiting for things to come and give me more breathing room. I have to use the money for things and also make sure have enough for my cat and myself to live. I also appreciate all those that are on the front lines dealing with this and helping those that got infected. I bet they do have those feelings.

Sneezes make everyone nervous these days, I'm sure. I feel for grocery workers because they put their health in danger for minimum wage. I really hope they get a raise or bonus.

@RubyHawk I asked a lady at Wal-Mart of she got a raise, and while she said she didn't, they all got a one time bonus.

Most grocery workers got a raise of 2 dollars an hour. But they don't earn a lot of money anyway.

I always try to stay away from sick people. That worries me going where the sick people are because they might have the virus. I am staying away from them. I do not have a mask.

I got a pattern from the internet and made each of us a mask. We only go out when we must and we always wear a mask. They are easy to make. I have seen some that look complicated but ours are very simple.

Doctors and Nurses are the ones who are at the higher risks. But so are other front line workers. I think that we are just starting to appreciate people who do their work.

@RubyHawk My brother is a doctor, he had retired the past December 2019, but the hospital in Italy called him back during the worst weeks of Covid-19. I think that from the next month he can finally retire again.

@LadyDuck I hope your brother will be okay. I have a nephew that's a doctor and he's working long hours. I also have a three nieces that are nurses. And so many people we've had die of the virus they haven't lost a patient. It's amazing. My nieces work in smaller hospitals but my nephew works at a large hospital. I feel sure he has seen many deaths.

A lot of nurses and doctors got infected here, and it saddened a lot of people because there are hard-headed people who still want to go out because they just want to hang out with their friends, while our doctors and nurses are risking their lives to help.

@mnglsp I don't plan on going anywhere unless it's necessary. Our park opened and I'm going there again to walk. Not many were there but I wore my mask. I'd rather be safe than sorry.

That's too bad. We haven't had any visitors in several weeks and we don't do any visiting. We talk to friends and family on the phone. It's a good idea to stay separate for the time being.
