For Mother's Day Tomorrow

So, we decided to have a cookout at our place tomorrow for Mother's Day. We will have over my mother, and my sister, and my niece.
All moms.
I perused the card aisle and thought, my gosh, do I really want to spend $15 on cards that will just wind up in the trash?
Instead I decided to get three packages of Dove chocolates at $4 a piece and write a poem of my own which we attached to the packets of chocolates.
I am not great at poetry, but I did my best with this little ditty. Here is the poem I wrote for my mom, my sister, and my niece.
There I stood, looking at cards
And there I thought, long and hard
Two seconds to look
These things are priced like a book!
Do I waste money on those,
Mere seconds of prose?
Things read in a dash
And tossed into the trash?
No way said I,
Instead I will buy
Something to eat,
A delectable treat
With nary a thought
Indeed I had bought
A chocolate for you and a chocolate for her
A chocolate for mom, my niece and sister
Besides, I can write something of my own
Of the seeds you have sown
Of what great mothers you are
What you have done like a star
Given life and love,
And gone beyond and above
To know all of you is the greatest of honor
A mom is a person, the world upon her
Who gives all of her life no matter what
To those she gave life, no ifs ands or but
I love you Mom, my sister and niece.
I love your devotion that will never cease.
Happy Mother's Day to you
You will forever be loved, this day going forward and forever and through

It really is a rip off how much cards cost. I bought some software to make my own cards. It's more personal and a lot less expensive.

@1creekgirl Cannot disagree with you at all on that. Not even sure why they DO charge so much for a card these days. I mean, $7? It cannot cost that much to make no matter how one tries to break it down.

Nice poem Jim! Anything from the heart is better than that which is store-bought!

@moffittjc I hate when they do that. It makes me want to get going, and that just takes away from all of my manliness. lol

How beautiful, a poem straight from the bottom of your heart! They will love the chocolates and your very thoughtful prose

@porwest Jay didn't buy me a card, because it's such a waste of money:)

@kobesbuddy Yeah. I'd rather spend the money another way. It's just a shame when these cards just wind up into the garbage can shortly after they are given.

@LindaOHio It really was. And at least I did allude to the fact in the poem that I am cheap.
