I decided upon guacamole for "g" because I know so many members enjoy this tasty dish (except for me!). Guacamole is an avocado-based dip, spread or salad which was first developed in Mexico. The Aztec dialect version of guacamole is ahuacamolli, loosely translated means avocado sauce concoction. The dates vary; but avocados date back to approximately 10,000 years ago and were first cultivated in South Central Mexico around 750 B.C. By the time the Spaniards came upon the Aztec empire in the 1500s the locals were making ahuacamolli. The first English-language mention of avocados was in 1696; and avocado trees were introduced in California in 1871. The ancient version of guacamole contains mashed avocados, chili peppers, tomatoes, white onions and salt. Today the traditional additions are lime juice and cilantro. Everyone has his/her own version of the dish. Literally millions of pounds of avocados are used in the United States on Super Bowl Sunday and Cinco de Mayo. Do you like guacamole?
