To Paraphrase the Old Joke.....

....It's the plumber. He's come to take my money. When I had the maintenance on the AC done earlier this month the repairman noticed a puddle of water under the house and told me I had a leak. The only plumbing work I've had done recently was the installation of the new bathtub, so I called the company who did that. They came out and repaired their issue. The man who did the work, however, informed me that the main pipe leading from the bathtub drain was severely clogged (as in, if it were an artery there'd be major surgery). So...I called the plumber. While I'm at it, and have a dollar to spare (which will no longer be the case after he leaves tomorrow), I asked them to replace my water heater. There's nothing wrong with it; however, it is 26 years old. I might as well get it replaced while it doesn't need it, rather than have to wait for days and weeks to get it fixed when it does need it. (Murphy's law, y'know.) Truthfully, I'm not all that upset. It was 31 years ago today that I closed on this house, and this is only my second water heater and first major plumbing issue (non-maintenance). I'm quite thankful for that!!!! Maybe The Horse will loan me some of his myLot Porsche money for this project....or I can start a Go Fund Yourself account. The most appropriate song for calling the plumber......

Wow, you've been in that house a long time! Can't believe you've gone that long without having any major plumbing issues! And that water heater should go into a museum or something, it's extremely rare for one to last that long.

Guess what, it’ll last a little longer! I’ll write more about the plumber’s visit later.

I have. It makes for very low payments (as in, $0 US and $0 AUS) after a few decades. And it’s perfect for me as a single person: two bedrooms, about 850 square feet. Plus, the greatest neighbors in the world!!!!

@FourWalls We own this house too which is a wonderful thing in these times. Funny how $0 US and $0 AUS are the same but add any figure to one of them and the whole ball game changes!

AC people keep telling me that my water heater is old too and have suggested for me to replace it. But I haven't yet.

Mine may just need a good flush and tune-up, but I’m planning on having it replaced. I wouldn’t trust the AC guy, anymore than I’d trust the plumber to tell me I need a new furnace.

It was a wise thing to replace your water heater. They can spring a leak; and you wouldn't even know it....and waste hundreds of gallons of water. This happened to us. It will be more efficient too.

I agree. "Maintenance repairs" usually tend to cost a lot less than "emergency repairs." It's almost as if they can hear the panic in your voice over the phone and adjust their prices accordingly.

New hot water heaters do not seem to last as well as those older ones, but I hope you get a good one. It will be more energy efficient and you may save a little in the long run.

Smart move. I don't know if I need a water heater just yet. Love the song, one of my favorites
