Do you have a set time on the calendar when you do your vegetable planting? I have just planted my tomato plants and lettuce. It seems I do much of my planting in May, around Mother's Day. That's when I know it is safe enough and this way I will have some tomatoes as early as possible. I guess many factors go into when you plant. Your location, the type of vegetables your growing, rainfall amounts in your region and planting zone. Using website tools like the Farmer's Almanac can help by letting you know when the last frost will be by entering your zip code. So, when is the best planting dates for your vegetable garden? And what tips can you provide about vegetable growing and mistakes to avoid? Source Material- Handyman Photo credit- healthtalk

My optimum time for planting is NEVER. We are too old to mess with gardening these days; and I'm not much of a green thumb. Our neighbor took about a zillion newspapers from us and used them to put on the ground to keep the weeds out. There's a tip I guess! Good luck with your garden!

@dgobucks226 Our balcony is so small we can barely fit two chairs. Plus we only have a few hours of sunlight a day. Right now we have two hanging baskets of purple pansies.

Sorry to hear. I remember a neighbor when I lived in a condo community who had a pot with tomato plants in it. He had it right outside his door.

Suggested planting times vary by hardiness zone. You can find it online for your area. Here is another tip: You can also rely on plant tags which provide useful information about soil and amount of sun needed.

Yes I do, I usually also pay attention to the moon phases. I seed tomatoes and peppers inside in late February, after the 15th of May I move everything in the garden. Your temperature and latitude is not the same that I have, you must check a Farmer's almanac for your area.

@dgobucks226 I fertilized the vegetable garden one week before planting and worked it with a spade a few times. Now everything is in place, I already have some green tomatoes and hot peppers.

I don't really know the best planting dates. I have a book about growing vegies in Australia and sometimes I check out their advice.

Planting time must be monitored Spring is definitely the best for planting, the type of fruit or vegetable depends on which month exactly, although there are species that can be planted literally 3 times a year

@dgobucks226 Yes, I forgot to mention that, that I spoke from experience from here. Also here most vegetables are planted in April / May In the US, the same is true of what I said, that certain vegetables can be planted several times a year. I don't know what part of the US you're in but you have a lot of videos on YouTube on this topic, they are very helpful
