Watch Dogs

So, my dining table is right up against a front window in my home. We see and hear anything going on in the street.
Today for breakfasts we were having homemade biscuits and sausage patties. We thought we heard a thump.
Next thing you know, Tinker is standing on his hind legs, looking out the front. Looking both ways. I could tell that down the hill a white vehicle was parked. There is a tree row that actually blocks the view.
Pretty soon the city truck pulls up, and Bob and I understand. It is the day to read the water meter.
Both Tinker and Mickey suddenly were behind me, on the buffet, and looking agitated. I could hear a chorus of low throated growls. Some yowling. There was a person in their yard, touching their "thing".
So we are well protected by our watch dogs. The cats.

They do not seem to notice the rabbits, or the squirrels. They stalk the birds, run hide from the horses. They act disturbed by large vehicles. This surprised me. It was the tone of voice they use for visiting strays.

I remember a friends cat years ago (siamese) who'd do that gowly thing if someone approached their door, it's a scary sound @GardenGerty

Daisy is now "in charge" of protecting the house.

@GardenGerty Yes, she is! I think with Bella, she knew Bella was in charge and she trusted her. Now it's her job.

I do not know if they would really protect us, but they sure thought it was wrong of him to open that meter.

These guys are really entertaining at times. They go up and down the tree I can see from the computer. Tinker is a big boy, but still acts like a kitten.

They would both run hide, I am sure. I like to think they would guard me.

I have had cats that would jump on people, but only have ever had them growl at other cats, or dogs.

Our cat just runs and hides when someone comes.

They hide from most things and that is why this surprised me.

Some cats can be very good attack dogs.

I bet if they were outside they would have hidden, after giving him their warning.

They are both "domestic shorthair" and their markings are "tuxedo". Tinker is white with grey and Mickey is white with black.
