The "protesters" got to the Best Buy a block from my house.

We live in odd times. The dude who owns my liquor store (where I get my Pinot Grigio and smokes) told me yesterday that he saw rioters looting the Best Buy (an electronics store one block from my house) on his way home from work the day before yesterday. There were two cop cars there, with lights flashing, but the cops did nothing. The looters procured some nice cell phones, computers, and other stuff. Raj (the fella who owns the liquor store) told me he was frustrated, because he was worried that the empowered rioters would eventually get to his store. Yesterday afternoon, at about 6 PM, I decided to revive the old "journalist" in myself, and went to the Best Buy near my house to see what was up. The two cop cars Raj had mentioned were already there, and Best Buy was boarded up. I took two pictures of the Best Buy (one should appear here) and then "interviewed" the cops. I told them I was a Professor at Diablo Valley College, and they were totally non-threatened by me. They even allowed me to take their picture (should I attach that in another post?) They told me that they had been instructed to be present there, and to have lights flashing, to discourage potential looters, but that they had also been instructed NOT to intervene when the looters broke windows, stole merchandise, etc. You have probably read about how peaceful protesters in Washington DC were "cornered" by police and had to escape into peoples' houses. And peaceful protesters were also dispersed so "President" Donald Trump could do a "photo op" with a Bible in front of a church he had never attended. Why are peaceful protesters being targeted, while arsonists and looters are allowed to run free? I invite your thoughts.

It is a sad time. But that kept anyone from getting hurt and maybe causing a bigger mess.

@TheHorse I wont give my stuff away. But I can understand them wanting to protect their police.

Perhaps so. But I have worked hard to make money for the few material possessions I have. If I have to give them all away "so there is not more violence," I will be frustrated. I admit it.

@wolfgirl569 So the police no longer have any power? And violent criminals rule?

My guess is when the cops are out numbered 100 to 1, it's hard to safely intervene.

@Bensen32 Yeah, I thought about that. But fantasy is fun sometimes.

@TheHorse LOL, although I think about that too. I don't know that it's a great idea in the cases that people will freak out even more.

Like you, I'm totally baffled as to why looters are allowed to carry on under the eyes of the police. What sort of a message is that?

The police are simply outnumbered. If they just shot to kill or main it would be considered racist, as most of the looters are black.

@JudyEv Exactly. I had some kind words for the cops as I left them. They're in a no-win situation.

The two policemen, I'm sure, were told not to intervene because it would be dangerous against such a crowd. The Trump/Bible thing was just a cherry on the sundae of his usual behavior.

I have become "conservative" in my old age. But I don't understand how Republicans gave than man a "pass." He should be long gone.

@LindaOHio It is odd. As I grow more "conservative," I don't want conservatives to be given a bad name.

I think it's a very sad thing. Maybe they will get the looters and people hurting cops.

I wonder if any stores in my borough have been vandalized or if it is just happening in Manhattan? Why are people talking about Trump taking a picture at the church and how it's a photo opp and not about the fact that it burned down by people? Also, how do we know that what we see and hear from the news is the truth?

I always check MSM and FOX (and other conservative sources) so I can get a "balanced" view of things.
