Short walk turned into a long drive

I went for a short walk and then decided that I wanted to take a drive around the area and see how bad the looting might have been around here. You know to get a firsthand look at things. I wrote down the couple places that I knew had reports of looting over the last week or so and headed out to see for myself. I drove down to the “downtown” area to see and there are some places that are still boarded up and closed for business. There were even two places that had people out replacing the boards with windows, so they are working on getting back open I assume. I then headed to one of the business districts and there was the same thing. Some of the bigger places were already back open while some of the smaller places are still boarded up. Sad to see that some of these places are still not open and I wonder if they will ever open again. You have to think that some of these places have been closed and not making any money and now they have to do repairs and possibly replace inventory. Maybe if they are lucky, they are insured for this kind of thing but I’m guessing not all of them are. They are going to need to take it out of their pockets or close their business. I drove past the beach and there were quite a few people out there and didn’t look like there was much social distancing going on. I didn’t stop I just drove past so maybe I just didn’t get the best view. I was not going to stop to find out. I did notice there are a lot of people out and about today. I guess with months of stay at home orders and the beautiful weather we have today, people wanted to get out and enjoy it.

Unfortunately, if these smaller shops are not insured, they are unlikely to reopen. They closed here, although we did not have any street riots, it is enough that they did not work for three months

Yes, unfortunately, that is going to happen to a lot of small business here too. Some have already closed and now with the rioting there will be more. Sad that just cause the business is not open they still have things they have to pay for and many of them could not afford 3 months of payment while not making any income.

@LowRiderX True and hopefully it will recover soon and not get any worse but I'm not sure that is going to happen

When I think about these small businesses and what they've been through, it breaks my heart. If these places are able to reopen, I hope everyone supports them by buying from them or eating there.

@Bensen32 That's true but I'm going to try and make a conscious effort to buy from them. It may not be all the time but at least until they can get back on their feet somewhat.

@simone10 That is a good idea, I do buy somethings from small businesses that are not to expensive. At least it is something.

I hope so too. The sad part is we usually end up at the big box store cause it is more convenient or a bit cheaper and we forget about the little store.

WE can see that more and more people are not taking their distances, not right.

It's like they think since the government is opening back up the streets that everything is all safe now and I'm not sure that is true.

I'm sure the beaches will be crowded and very little social distancing. Guess people think it's worth a little fun and risk the virus. Not me. As much as I love the beach I'm not going.

Might be best for you not to go at least for a while and see if things calm down with people.

It might be hard to get inventory insurance in those areas but I'm only guessing.

Yeah, I'm not a small business owner in this area so I am not sure how it works but I know from another area in another state that it is possible but it is very expensive and a lot of people don't take it or that take a small amount that does not cover the full amount of their inventory.

lockdown due to the virus has already closed down several businesses and those that are opening up have had to face looting in several cities and towns across the US causing further losses. Hope businesses have insured their property and stock so that they can recover damages.

Yes, this is true and I'm sure there are many that are not fully insured and those are the ones that will never open again.
