There is a tropical storm getting ready to make landfall on Sunday on the gulf coast. I have friends and family in the area. I hope everyone will be safe. These storms are so unpredictable. You have to be prepared for the worst. Many are taking cover and loading sandbags around their property already. We will be driving in this area for the funeral tomorrow. Hoping everyone is safe during this storm. I know many are getting lots of rain already.

That huge dark patch of red to the right of the storm is all the outflow that is making its way over Florida. That's the torrential rain we've been getting for the past two days. The good news, our drought is over. The bad news is now we have major flooding going on. Maybe our local governments should have made sandbags available here too!

@CarolDM Thankfully, I've never had to use sandbags. I probably could have used them during the 2004 hurricane season when we got hit with three hurricanes in a row, but we somehow survived. I was outside in the middle of the hurricane digging trenches to funnel the water away from our house. Luckily, the water never came high enough to seep over our foundation and into our house. But we had quite a scare there for a little while.

I know, I have been watching closely. Sandbags save lives.

@moffittjc I remember very well the water coming over the sandbags in New Orleans many times. But they are below sea level to begin with.

@CarolDM They will always be an issue in that part of the country. We've had a few hurricanes up in Connecticut, too,

@rebelann Yes but a seven hour trip and seven hours back all in the heavy rain was no fun.

I used to live in Houston, many many moons ago. I am glad we no longer live where those big storms come in. It was such a hassle to pick up and run for higher ground with little warning. Good luck to all in the path. Stay safe.

@CarolDM I agree but when one is young, they think they can survive anything. My brother in law still lives down there, in a travel trailer. He can just hook it up and tow it out with him when a storm comes.

Tropical storms seem to be more frequent in recent times. Hope this storm weakens and passes away without any damage.

Cristobal is a big one I think. Hope it stays away from here, but who knows? I bet most people will see something from it.

That looks a pretty fearsome storm. I hope it doesn't do too much damage but that's probably too much to hope for.
