A new use for a lovely old church

We went shopping this morning as we’re expecting guests later today. They are staying overnight. Vince took his camera as he needed a photo for a challenge on one of his photo sites. The theme is ‘architecture’. This is one of the photos he took of what was once the Baptist Church in Donnybrook, Western Australia. It has been decommissioned and is now the Council Chambers, where our local government officers hold their meanings. The plaque on the front says the building was erected circa 1900. The town was established in 1896. Early settlers were always keen to establish a place of worship. I think it is great that, rather than let the building go to wrack and ruin, the local authorities have restored the lovely old building and have found a purposeful use for it.

that is a cool idea - my old hometown did something very similar with the old cathedral in the center of town!

There was a very lovely octagonal church in the centre of our suburb which was repurposed very nicely as a library.

That is a lovely building and looks very attractive with an excellent architecture and also the color pattern. It is really appreciated that local authorities have found a purpose to re utilize this old Church which is about 120 years old!

@JudyEv , Yes, now it is a Cultural Heritage and hopefully a Preserved Monument, with which not only the town but the country must be proud!

It's an asset now to the town instead of an eyesore.

That looks nice. There is a church of that era maybe about 35 minutes from here. I wish they would restore it..as it was built to last, and looks like that one but a bit larger. It needs to be renovated though.

There is always something that they can be used for. Our friend converted one into a lovely home for herself.

That is a beautiful building! I would love to find an old, quaint church building and convert it into a home. We have a fancy restaurant downtown that operates out of an old church building that they bought and renovated. It is so beautiful, both inside and outside. I love going on special dates to that restaurant!

@JudyEv I'm glad people are finding such great re-uses of these old churches, instead of just demolishing them or letting them fall into ruin.

Our friend bought an old church and made a lovely home from it. This one is now a concert and wedding venue.

What a wonderful way to repurpose an old church that was so sturdily built and with good looks as well.

Very beautiful architecture. Yes the town council did the right thing by using it for meetings rather than demolishing it of letting it to get ruined.
