Surprise View From The Ladder

After I enjoyed my coffee in the screen room earlier I decided to check on the cardinal eggs. All morning the male cardinal visited on the deck, often looking into the screen room and singing all morning. Enough is enough. I had to check. Maybe he was making a birth announcement to me! Guess what? He was. Three baby cardinals have hatched in my rose of sharon bush. Had to climb the smaller ladder to see into the nest. This nest is about six feet off the ground. No feathers yet, one day old in the photo. My day has been made. Nature came through with another surprise. My Dad may be watching down from up there somewhere. He loved these "red birds", as he called them. Photo ©CarolDM2020

The cardinal parents don't mind that you climb up on your ladder and check out the babies?

@CarolDM I wonder if birds can discern between predator and the curious? I mean, if it was a predator, wouldn't the parents be attacking it or something?

If I don't stay long, and I don't. I will wait a few days before I go back. But they leave in 9-10 days.

@moffittjc Yes I believe they know the difference. However I am still a predator somewhat. I always move slowly and quick. But other predators do as well. I leave the nest intact and the babies are safe when I leave.
