My vegetables are looking good

It’s winter here in Western Australia and I planted a few vegetable seedlings when the pandemic first started taking over the place. Everyone else in our area must have had the same idea as it was several weeks before we managed to be at the hardware store on the day the seedlings arrived from the supplier. My seedlings are doing well although the cabbage and broccoli are taking longer to get going and insects have eaten holes in a few of the leaves. The lettuce seedlings are doing well and I can now pick off enough leaves for me to eat. The parsley also looks quite lush and healthy. We are expecting friends later today. Vince’s brother and his wife are coming from Perth and another friend as well. Fun times ahead.

I like the title. I miss planting vegetables and it is fortunate that there are vegetable gardens nearby.

I remember when I used to want to plant veggies and such but never had the time due to my work hours, now I find my get up and go exited stage left ..... damn that tiger.

It really is @JudyEv but I won't let it bother me, at least I can buy what I need.

Your vegetables look great. My tomatoes and peppers are growing well, but there are insect that eat holes in some of my leaves here too. I wonder which are those insects, I cannot spray the plants with chemicals.

@JudyEv I tried, but it did not work, the hot sauce burned some leaves.

Maybe you could make an organic spray. Or trying companion planting.

Isn't it nice when you can harvest your own fruits or vegetables to eat. I don't know about you, but it always makes me feel better when I can grow and harvest my own food.

@JudyEv It's also nice to know the food is safe and free from pesticides, insecticides and fungicides (assuming you don't use all that stuff when growing). Backyard gardens are the ultimate in organic food!

It probably satisfies some ancient survival instinct to grow your own food. Certainly, it's a good feeling.

'Enjoy your friends' sounds a bit like I'm going to eat them - but I know what you mean. Thanks. We get on well with all three so it will be a relaxed time.

Lovely little garden. You may like to try a concoction of garlic and hot sauce in a water bottle. Spray your plants with it to keep the nasty bugs from eating your plants. I have a few plants in pots and some in the ground. Hoping the groundhog doesn't eat them. Planted beans in 2 window boxes, tomatoes, acorn squash, zucchini, yellow squash, and lettuce. I have to add more seed to the lettuce box though. Getting very little of it. With the lack of rain, and now lack of sun, my little garden looks a little pathetic. Hoping that it takes of soon.

@JudyEv I am trying to water the beds more often. The heat and lack of rain is really taking a toll on the plants.

@ElusiveButterfly Have you tried to mulch them with straw or dried grass to try to stop the moisture escaping?

I forget that it's winter there! Oh what a colorful leafy garden you have here ! We did the kitchen scrap thing in jars here when the pandemic started . . . they've graduated from water to soil now! Enjoy your harvest!

@cherriefic It isn't really hard. You just plant the seedlings and watch them grow. From time to time, I pull out the weeds from around them.

Have a great time with your visitors. Your veggies definitely look good. I ordered and got some organic seeds online. I will soon be back to growing veggies that stopped as I was out of seeds in lockdown. First I have to exercise my muscles and clean those post of weeds that have grown during this period.

Insects eating holes in the leaves is probably not a good sign. Fresh Lettuce is good, so well done on that. Parsley, another great thing to grow, along with Rosemary and Thyme. Never mind lol, nah, you will get it. Enjoy the fun times ahead.
