Nature right here at home

Photo I took minutes ago, of a hawk eating dinner

Just got this photo. I was out on the patio smoking a cigarette as I seen this hawk fly by chasing another bird and he caught him out of the air and landed on this little fence and started to eat dinner. I was amazed that I see that right here in front of me. I am so pumped for this, I mean I have spend a lot of time in nature and never actually seen a hawk catch a bird mid flight. I have seen them eating after the catch but to actually see it happen was pretty amazing. I know some of you might feel bad for the smaller bird but that is nature at its best right there. I know the quality of the picture is not great, I was just trying to get a decent shot off before the hawk flew off. It was a good thing cause I grabbed my camera quick and popped off a few shots and the hawk took off.

I know that they kill and eat other birds, I saved a dove one day in our garden and the hawk tried to attack me... I am glad I could run inside the house (the dove flew away).

@LadyDuck Yeah, I agree with him. I don't like when someone takes my food away when I am hungry.

LOL, yea, I'm no hawk expert but I think it might have been a Red-Tailed Hawk.

@amitkokiladitya In the place I live you see them once in a while not very often. They tend to be more in the rural areas.

I would have been stoked too to experience this, but at the same time I would feel so bad for the poor bird.

Maybe it is a little sad but that is how nature works. The hawk has to eat something.

Did he take his dinner with him? Great shot! I watched a red tail hawk grab a ground squirrel and fly off with the little guy still peeping his danger call.

That is bird cunning and wise hunter for its prey. By the way, what's the difference between a hawk and an eagle?

Well from what I know, the eagle is bigger and stronger but they are quite similar.

@Bensen32 You're right. Eagle is robust than the hawk.

I know the feeling of hurrying to catch a photo before a bird leaves. I would have been stoked to have seen this too.

Nature is awesome if people just take the time to see it and appreciate it for what it is.
