Do you feel guilty?

I refuse to feel guilty about something I never did. I see what I think is going on right now and has before in the past. The guilt trip and trying to get people to feel guilty about something that happened long before I was ever born. This guilt trip about slavery again, and since I am white, I am supposed to feel guilty about that? I’m sorry, I am not falling for this. Do I feel bad that anyone was held as a slave, sure I do. What I am not going to do is feel guilt about it when it happened over 150 years ago. None of my family was even in the U.S. at that time. So I am not going to feel guilt about what some people I never knew and had nothing to do with, did 150 years ago. I know it is not popular to say right now but if you haven’t “made it” in life maybe you need to look at yourself before blaming everyone else. When you walk through life and assume everyone is against you that is on you. When you come in with an attitude that no one is going to give you a chance and that everyone is against you, 99% of the people are not going to give you a chance. No one wants to be around someone who has a negative attitude and that has nothing to do with skin color. Systemic racism really? The whole system is against you? You don’t have the same opportunities? Seems to me there have been people who have proved that wrong. Let me think off the top of my head. You have hear of Oprah Winfrey (Kosciusko, MS), seems she did alright for herself, Ben Carson (Detroit, MI), you know the neurosurgeon who became a politician, Barack Obama (unknown), you know the guy who was an Attorney who became president. Seems to me they found a way.

I couldn't agree more. Nothing is going to change the past but I do think that somehow we need to look at changing present attitudes or there will be just more unrest and violence. As you say, the opportunities are there for those who want to make the most of them.

There are just to many people that want to take the easy way out and don't want to put in the effort to do what they need to.

@Bensen32 That's so true. Half of them want stuff handed to them on a plate.

@JudyEv Its a odd thing, it seems a lot of the younger generation think everything should be handed to them. There is no ambition to work for things.

Same as you, I cannot feel guilty for something our ancestors did. If we go back and back in years, should I feel guilty because Adam and Eve committed the original sin? This all thing is ridiculous. I am not even guilty for today racists, I am not but I can do nothing for stopping people being racists.

@Bensen32 I think to remember that even the Bible says that "The son shall not suffer for the iniquity of the father".... so all those who pretend to be "good Christians" should stop trying to make people feel guilty.

@LadyDuck Well many Christians like to use it as a way to make themselves seem better than others yet they don't follow the things they preach to others. Not all but many.

To many people are doing that now. They are feeling guilty for things they never did, due to the pressure of some of society.

Well for starters everything that is going on here, but then I had a conversation with a neighbor that put it over the top for me.

I absolutely agree with you, why would I feel guilty if I didn’t do anything.
