Coffee Talk

Happy Thursday Everyone! another hot summer day here today. The sky isn't as blue as yesterday but it's still a sunny start. My coffee is brewing and I'm definitely ready to take that first sip. The "serum of life" as Julia @juliaacv always says. Today is the usual housework. Changing the sheets on my bed and doing laundry. I'm going to put the new mattress pad I bought on the bed and I'm looking forward to getting into a nice clean and comfy bed tonight. I usually try to divide my chores throughout the week so that I'm not trying to get everything done all at once. Yesterday was the bathroom and downstairs so now today everything on the first floor is done. My daughter went to work so we're having an easy dinner tonight....salad with lots of fixins and grilled chicken. One of my favorite meals these days as my desire to cook is totally diminished. I used to love spending time in the kitchen slaving over a hot stove (as the saying goes) but not anymore. The quicker the better. Maybe my daughter has been spoiling me with the nights she cooks. Anyway, as you can see it's not an exciting day but a good day ahead nonetheless. Coffee is done and I'm going to pour a big mug and sit here and chat while I drink it. Hope everyone is having or had a good day today

It's just too hot to stay in the kitchen and cook all day or all afternoon. We are also up for anything quick, easy and refreshing. Salads are always good. I love the feel of sleeping on clean sheets. I've often said that if I won the lottery, I would have new sheets on my bed every day . Not really as that would get expensive, but I probably would have clean sheets every day instead of once a week like I do now.

@Marilynda1225 If we won the lottery, we would definitely have to have a maid Seriously though, it would be nice but I'm only dreaming.

I would love clean sheets every day too but it would be tiring washing and changing them every day. I would have to win the lottery and would need a maid if I wanted to do that as well as buy new sheets all the time

@simone10 first I'd have to play the lottery in order to win Even without winning the lottery there are days when i wish I had a maid

Enjoy your coffee. I have just done my household chores. I only have to cook for dinner later.

I'm having a hard time getting myself going this morning. My chores probably won't be done for awhile especially if I'm sitting here myLotting By the way....how are you doing with your bank this month without posting any discussions? Have you seen a difference?

@thelme55 maybe I should try that as I really don't have much to post about these days. Glad to hear it's working out well for you

@Marilynda1225 I am doing fine with earning without writing a discussion. I am really surprised as I am earning here with just interacting with others.

Hubby just poured our serum of life . I love a "fresh" clean bed. I'm trying to divide the chores too . . . but no matter what it seems like everyday of chores . I had a friend who was a great cook - but she said she is a quick cook . . . she likes recipes that are prepared in 15 minutes or less. Enjoy your cuppa serum and day .

@Marilynda1225 That crock pot is a lifesaver - everything out of there is tasty - and you don't have to touch a thing after you do the initial preparing!

No more slaving over a hot stove for me. My days of cooking for hours are over. I'm with your friend who says 15 minutes or less but I do like my crockpot and having a one pot meal that simmers all day long.

Oh yes, gotta have that coffee. I'm avoiding cooking all summer, myself. I got sandwich and salad fixings, and my freezer is full of microwave meals. I live alone now, so it was too frustrating trying to cook just for myself in the first place. And the oven really heats this place up. i have small evaporative coolers right now, but no a/c downstairs. So I'm not about to do something to heat the place up when I don't have to do it.

I don't blame you for not wanting to heat up your place. I do my best not to turn on the oven even with the a/c. I'm leaning more and more toward simple meals and not anything that requires much effort.

@Marilynda1225 the only things I still enjoy cooking, and only do when company is coming, are spaghetti and stew. Things you can accomplish pretty much in one pot and simmer all day.

I went grocery shopping today and this is done for the week. The day was warmer, but not really hot, we are lucky with the weather.

@Marilynda1225 The stores are well stocked here. The only things that we do not find all the time are the big bottles of hand sanitizer, but I have a couple at home, I can wait.

We got enough to last for two weeks last time we shopped so that's something I don't have to do until next week some time. Are the stores there stocked well?

I am right there with you when it comes to cooking lately. My husband doesn't complain when I serve up a quick meal. Yesterday he asked if dinner was going to cook itself. My reply was "oh I only wish that could happen!" I am tired of even making simple sandwiches! Today I need to tidy up the kitchen. There is a load of laundry ready for the dryer. Have to sweep through the house too. I may need to run the swiffer mop through too. Have to finish up an order of 50 masks, only have 4 to make then press them. Then I'll start on the next order for a friend who sent me bandanas to make masks with. Little Miss has asked to go outside to play in her pool. But, we will wait til the yard is shaded and the sun isn't beating down on us. Going to be near 100 F today. Not looking forward going outside.

Sounds like you have a busy day ahead. Hope Little Miss gets to enjoy her pool but it's smart to wait until it's shaded. I remember my grandchildren loving to splash around in those little backyard pools. My mom always said she wished there was a pill to take so you didn't have to eat. I always thought she was crazy until recently. Now I'm starting to think the same thing.

I do love to cook, but when it is hot, doesn't seem to be the time. Summer is mostly cool foods and those that don't involve alot of cooking.

I wanted to get a new barbecue this year but never got around to it due to Covid. It was always easy to just throw something on the grill. I find I'm eating more fruit and the idea of a heavy meal isn't very appealing.

Good (hot) morning! My first cup of coffee went down so well this morning I could not resist a second cup! Getting up at 4:30am dictates a certain amount of life serum to be consumed, I'm sure the doctors would all recommend that. This week I have been the other way and have been making new and different meals for us, and last night my hubby complimented me on it. I guess that I must have been in a rut and I'm cutting out of it now. I usually have to start thinking by about noon as to what we will have for supper. Tonight will be leftover roast beef on wraps with some left over potatoes and fresh vegetables on the side.

I never think of having wraps but I do like them. I'm going to have to think about adding them to our list this week and they'll definitely be easy and something different. My two cups of "life serum" went down too easy this morning and I probably could have used a third but switched to water. One of the first questions my daughter and I ask each other when we're having breakfast is...what's for dinner

It is going to be another hot one here again too, I will be sitting indoors and stay away from the scorching sun. I had my 2 mugs already and now I am drinking iced tea. You have a wonderful day

@Marilynda1225 Thank you I try to not think about it too much or I will be balling my eyes out. They always say it gets easier with time, but it has been 18 yrs and not easier by no means. Thank you for visiting and have a great day.

Wish I could get motivated to cook. I used to love cooking and spending time in the kitchen. Maybe I've lost a bit of my zeal since the grandkids haven't been around in ages and it's only my daughter and myself.

@Marilynda1225 I certainly understand that! We used to enjoy eating out a lot, so now when I cook, it's a treat. I try to make gourmet dinners for hubs. He appreciates it and that makes me happy.

Good Morning! Enjoy your coffee. I like to cook, but I also like those meals that have little to no prep work. I buy things to make it easier for that purpose. Like microwaveable or boil in bag rice packages. I used that yesterday instead of a regular box of rice. Of course, rice is one of the things that my local store is still not able to stock much of. I like to divide my chores up too. I need to unload the dishwasher today and start a load of laundry.

I noticed that rice was hard to find and it's weird. Why?? guess rice has joined the ranks of all those other foods that have become hard to find. I don't eat much rice so it's not a big deal if we don't have it.

She likes working in the office and her co-workers but the commute kills her. She drives almost two hours each way so on days she works from home it's easier

Yeah, my cooking skills are reduced the moment I work full time, There's simply no more time to practice cooking.
