MyLotter DKM (@Corbin5) recently wrote about a bird’s nest pudding. Here’s the link: https://www.mylot.com/post/3386740/no-birds-in-birds-nest-pudding
I’m looking for a dessert to serve to guests who are arriving on Friday so I’m thinking of making this pudding. Some have remembered it being mentioned in Laura Ingalls Wilder’s book ‘Farmer Boy’.
When I opened the link, I came across the word ‘turducken’, calling the pudding the ‘turducken of pies’. I googled turducken and it’s ‘a roast dish consisting of a boned chicken inside a boned duck which is then placed inside a partially boned turkey.’
Of course, once you know this, it’s easy to see how ‘turducken’ is a blend of ‘turkey, duck, chicken. Has anyone heard of turducken, or perhaps even made it? Actually, having said it a few times, it's hard to get past the 'turd' part.
Photo is of a crested duck but surely it’s much too cute to have a chicken stuffed in it then be stuffed into a turkey.

@judyev I’ve heard of the dish but not it’s name. If I had heard the name I would surely have remembered it. I find the whole idea rather disrespectful to the birds concerned for some reason. I don’t think I’d like having it put in front of me.

I've had a turkey/chicken combination but it was a roll. I always imagined a whole chicken sort of residing in a duck then the whole lot in a turkey. But normally each is deboned so it just ends up a solid piece of meats. However, the Wikimedia photo I found shows a whole bird.

Whoever thinks of these exotic creations, must lay awake all night to get new ideas! Nope, I've never eaten turducken, but would be willing to try it cooked by someone else:)

@kobesbuddy For me, some things aren't worth the trouble but then I don't like cooking.

@JudyEv If someone else prepared it, this would make an awesome meal!

Ahh yep that makes sense how it got it's name based on the animals that are in it. I have never eaten duck and haven't had chicken or turkey in 30 years. I searched posts looking for where @Corbin5 went and came across this post. I thought it was from 2021.

I've heard of turducken, but I've never had it. Sounds like a lot of meat. I would probably enjoy it.
And by the way, I could never eat a duck that had a hairdo like the one in your photo!

I have heard of it but never had it. My favorite piled-up combination is seven-layer salad.

It's a strange word, isn't it, but makes sense once you know the meaning.

It's just a combination of three meats so there is nothing too exotic about it. I'd be happy to try it too.
