Small things can brighten your day

One of my myLot friends, Jeff Moffitt (@moffittjc) wrote a discussion entitled ‘those-aha-moments-of-discovery ( about not seeing what is right in front of your eyes. We had one of those moments this morning when we walked over to the workshop. We must have passed this spindly plant hundreds of time but this morning it has covered itself in little yellow puffballs. It is a wattle (acacia) of some sort. There are dozens of different varieties so I can’t be more specific. But what a bright, cheery sight on a rather gloomy morning.

I agree that the yellow flowers gave life to the desolate looking place.

Yes, that is true too - that small things can ruin a day sometimes.

@JudyEv Curious me. Do you have dandelions?

@sallypup We do but they are not like the English dandelions. I'm not sure what dandelions are to you. This is what ours look like. I think they are more properly called 'Capeweed'.

@JudyEv The authorities told us that the past month of July has been the 3rd hottest registered... They are cheating us, we only had 2 days really hot, we removed the duvet after mid July.

@JudyEv I bet they were beautiful. Do they grow like some flowers do, in a field where there are lots of them?

@simone10 Most wattles are shrubs or trees. There is a great number of species.

Those little yellow puffballs are definitely bright and noticeable, but I can't blame you for passing by this spindly plant without noticing it in the past. If you remove all those yellow puffballs, the plant is actually kind of hard to notice. But it's nice to see that you had your own A-ha! moment this week! And thanks for the mention as well!

@JudyEv There have been a few times where I saw something growing that I thought it was an ugly weed or a useless plant, and then one day it blooms and produces beautiful flowers. It is at those times that I'm thankful I didn't cut or pull the plant out of the ground, or else I would have missed its beauty.

You're welcome. I think that might be twice you've been an inspiration!! I wouldn't have known the plant was anything special if it hadn't flowered.
