the tiktok video on how to make the mask fit better works

i used to only have cloth masks, but have since bought disposable surgical masks also to alternate. i remember reading about this tiktok video of a canadian dentist on how to make the surgical mask fit better, so i searched it online because i wanted to try it today. dr. olivia cui recorded it way back june 23 and it's only 60 seconds. see tiktok video link below. but if you can't or don't want to watch it, here's the steps as summarized by womenshealthmag.com: 1. Fold your mask in half 2. Tie a knot with the ear loops on each side as close as possible to the mask 3. Open up your mask 4. There will be a little opening on the sides next to the ear loop, so tuck that in underneath the ear loops on each side 5. Wear your (better-fitting) mask i followed this tip of tying the loops and tucking in the sides because the first few times i used the disposable surgical mask, it would go up my nose and eyes so i kept pulling it under my chin. grrr....! you know what i noticed about cloth masks? they're like socks! i had 4, i gave 1 away, but now i only have 2! i have no idea how and where i could have lost it because i only take them off at home and toss them with the laundry. what type of mask do you use? let me know if the tip in the video helps you, too.

That's so funny that you now only have 2 masks. Maybe they are joining up with the missing socks.

@jobelbojel you're lucky you were allowed inside. some are strict. no face mask, no face shield, no quarantine pass - no entry!

My husband had some surgical masks from work, so we had been using them for shopping trips (whenever we had to go out in public). Although we seem to be able to buy those and the cloth ones anywhere now, initially I hand sewed all of our cloth masks. It took time to make them, so I will tell you I treated them like gold and made sure I kept track of all of them. I actually do not like the ear loop ones . . . they are convenient to take on and off, but the loops turn around on the ears like gears. I like the ones where you have to tie them (which I followed the old surgical masks we had) . . . and with the top tied over a ponytail, the masks never move off the face. I will watch the video later and look for tips as I hopefully will be sewing more masks again soon (maybe).

@hereandthere Your ears stick out with the loop ones, right? That's why we use the ones you tie . . . it is less convenient to take on and off, but we never have a problem with it. However, they are not popular so I have to make the ones with the ties. Yes, we do the same with the surgical masks. I noticed with medical/dental staff, they often wear 2 masks. And now some store workers are wearing the surgical, then the cloth one over that (for fashion, or extra protection maybe?).

i don't like that the cloth masks make my ears stick out, but i like that they're washable/reusable. so i just use them when running errands around here. but when i have to commute and go where there's more people, the place is enclosed and i'll be there a long time, i use the surgical mask. (like the mall when i had my dental xray then went to the houseware section and the supermarket to maximize my trip)

I have so many kinds of masks but my favorite now are the camouflaged ones that are cut so nicely it fits well to the bridge of my nose unlike those artless square ones lol. As the number of infected rises, I also now wear a face shield.

Thank you for sharing the video. This is the first time I watch a tiktok video, I am glad login is not required. So far, I have only used disposable masks though I always wanted to make some cloth masks, I haven't make any. I have seen a few tutorials on how to make the cloth masks, but still.... I seldom go outside, perhaps that's why I don't have the urge to make the cloth masks yet.

i think you also have to research which material/fabric is the best. some tutorials show how to put pockets so you can insert a filter. i like having both depending on where i'm going and how long i'll be out.

@hereandthere Our government discouraged us to make our own masks because only the medical masks with the filter are safe.

I tried tying it, but am not so comfortable with it. I use surgical masks, even double it when I go to places that I consider so dangerous; I also have cloth masks but I make sure I use surgical mask inside for more protection.

we wear the pleated paper masks and I made several from cloth that we wore to begin with. I still have them and we might wear them again. I’m checking out your video.
