One Dollar

United States

That is what I received for the books I took back today. They allow for about two totes full of things at the moment, but I only filled up one of their totes today. One dollar might not seem like much, and it isn't, but it is still a profit for me. The books I returned were books I got for free. They also gave me $10.00 in store credit. It would have been $14.00 store credit if I had not taken the cash. I still have more books to get rid of on my shelf. I used the voucher I received, plus another I had previously, and bought a coloring book and a big blank book that is the same as the small blank book I already have. I didn't need the big blank book, but I brought it home because I have a few ideas for it. I also looked at some of the crochet books, but what they had were things I could find online for free so I didn't grab any of them. I am going to take more books back another day.

The books I get for free I always drop off in little free libraries or pass onto someone else. We don’t have any places like you describe here. That sounds like a fun place to shop.

It has books, electronics, board games, stuffed animals, legos, movies, cd's, records and comic books. They take pretty much anything! The books I gave them back were books I bought on voucher, so they were free to me. This particular store is in TN & NC. Hope something similar pops up around you.

It's just one with patterns and flowers. It's called "vintage." I used to have a lot of them, but I sold them because I hardly ever used them. Now I bought one and only one. I won't get another until I am done with this one. I hope you can unhaul your book collection. I know how hard it can be to part with books!

@ScribbledAdNauseum We have the biggest online bookfair this week and I saw a coloring book called vintage there. I'm a little bit interest after saw the cover but I still have a lot of coloring book that I need to work on - some even still empty :D

@haraka This coloring book is called "Vintage Coloring Book" and then at the bottom it says "Gorgeos retro patterns to personalize and keep" It has flowers, mandalas and geometric shapes as well. It doesn't have a lot of small spaces like some do. Yes, that was my problem - too many coloring books that I didn't use them. Oh, tell me more about this online bookfair. Are the prices cheaper than at a regular store?

@Tina30219 I hope so. I have been bouncing around the idea of trying to sell some of my crocheted dishcloths.

I was looking at the electronics, but i didn't see that they had any printers. I hope they get some in, because I'd buy one.

I wish there was a place like that here. I could probably spend a lot of time there.

I used to spend atleast two hours in the store, waiting for them to get through my trades and then just shopping.

@simone10 You might be surprised. I hope you can find something like that here. We have several independently owned bookstores here. One went out of business which I hate, because I have only been in it a handful of times, but I loved it. I remember it had a lot of very old books.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Depending on the books, I could probably spend two hours easily. I guess I really need to look and see if I there are any stores like that here.

I donated a book to the Kidney Foundation a few days ago. It was a book by Morgan Jenkins (the a/c company). It was a free book about how to do a business right. I didn't want the book and I had no desire to read it, I also gave away one of my favorite shirts.

It's good to support charities and foundations when you can. It's just so hard to find ones that actually have a good structured plan for how they divvy up the money they earn.

I donate my read books to Goodwill or the library...but then I only get a tax deduction...no $ or store credit! :-)

I am surprised that the store I go to hasn't expanded more than it has. It's been open since the 70's, and has four locations. Two of them here in NC, and two in TN. I will be donating the books that they didn't take. I need to work on getting rid of more today.

I checked the website of our used book store here. First, they are not accepting books at this time. Second, they only take gently used books. Third, they only give you a few cents per book. They sell the books at $2 under cover price. So they are making quite a profit on books traded in. They should at least give $1 a book. I think they also only take 10 at a time when they are taking them. This place is useless for me to try and get rid of books. I could try and do another Facebook market place to sell them or just donate them to Salvation Army like I usually do. I wish I could make some money from these books.

Wow, yes they definitely are giving very little for them. I think this thrift store basically checks ebay and then bases their offer off of that, but I am not sure. There's another one in town that doesn't even seem to take books unless they are new. I say the facebook marketplace is more worth it, if you want to go through the hassle of that.

You're right a dollar is a dollar and a profit is always good no matter how small.

I will probably use that dollar to pay more on my cellphone. I emptied my purse of change when I was at the store yesterday. Coinstar counted it up and it was around $23. So that will go towards my cellphone bill too.

@gr8nana6 I just love how metro lets me pay more towards and just credits it onto my bill.

It never hurts to have vouchers for this particular thrift store. I have other things I can sell them, and I noticed today that they seemed to have expand what they will take.

Not as good as I did a couple of years ago. I still have DVDs to sell, but I can't get to them without someone helping me move the big TV, so they just sit there collecting dust.

@Spontaneo Ah yes, I tried doing that with DVDs. I can't remember the name of the site, but it didn't seem as if it would be worth the hassle. That's when I decided to try this thrift store for the first time.

@ScribbledAdNauseum In the past, I attempted to sell books online. But after logging in the ISBN of every book, I was told the website did not want them. Major bummer.
