Just come back from seeing dad....

I saw my dad yesterday finally. I am a lot better but I still have coughing fits here and there and to the point I feel I need to be sick. It was suggested to me that I may have asthma. I had asthma as a child but I grew out of it. Or maybe I never did? I don't know. Anyway so I was finally allowed to see my dad yesterday in hospital and I saw him again tonight. He is doing good! But at the same time I worry. I can already see some of you saying "Just think positive!" But sorry, how long has this been going on for? And how many times had I said my dad was fine only for negative situations to keep rising? Many! I'm not purposely trying to think negative but the way we are all feeling (my dad and my family) is that whenever we see / hear my dad improving, we still worry as there have been many let downs. He is doing good BUT he does have an infection in his foot! And we did hear this last year from his doctors / surgeon that even though my dad does well managing his diabetes, that infection "osteomyelitis" can just happen if his foot isn't looked after right / or have a cut etc. Sorry, I know I could be explaining this better but I am tired. Anyway due to this, my dad had been told last year as well as this year that it's highly likely my dad may lose another toe as that toe has a fracture in it from when my dad was younger which means that toe is very much prone to getting osteomyelitis in it as well as his other toes being at risk. My dad is still at risk at losing half his foot or all his foot with how fast this infection spreads and attacks. Worry about it IF it happens? Sorry that is hard also! It's one thing after another with this family, I swear we are cursed! He might be coming home on Monday. Again, we are not holding our breath because that could change again. When he does come home, he will be monitored daily as well as being given antibiotics (or something else) to help fight the infection. I want to say again, thank you to everyone. I am not religious but I still thank you and find it sweet when people say they are praying. I personally do not pray but I still find it sweet when others say they are. My faith is with the doctors who are physically looking after / treating my dad. Just, thank you kindly to everyone who has yet again been supporting me through this. What is this the third time now? I don't know. Hope everyone is well. I will come on tomorrow. I just want to make dinner, watch something funny and go to bed. And truly hope this all made sense. My fingers are moving faster than my thoughts tonight. And seriously, I know I know "don't say sorry" but I am sorry if this post seems negative on my part but I'm being realistic and I'm also very tried so if anything came across grumpy, I'm sorry, I'm reaching that limit, I can feel it. So much going on. More than just my dad. Speak to you all later.

I think you made sense :-) And getting possible asthma checked out is probably a good idea, then you'll know what makes you sick. Maybe get some medication. Coughing nowadays really adds the stress, with the COVID-19 about noone wants to cough. Even if it's just from swallowing an insect (I did that this week)

@VivaLaDani13 And it's a strange mix of people making one meter a bit too short some times, but then being nervous about someone 15 meters away outside.

@Torunn I know what you mean! Yes, people are like this here as well. I mean, it's partly funny but also partly sad because some people are genuinely afraid and being cautious so that part makes me feel uneasy for people. Though I'm not a big fan of humans, I still don't wish for innocent people to be hurt or uneasy just trying to live.

@Torunn Oh man! Yeah I know what you mean. In public I can see people cowering away / walking fast and far away from others if they see them cough / sneeze.

I'm glad you saw your dad. Great news! I hope, and yes, pray this will be the last surgery for your dad and the foot improves and the infection goes away. I hope you found a funny movie and got a good night's sleep.

I guess the stress is getting on to you about your dad's condition. It is important that you balance things out in getting your health in check while attending to your dad's condition.

I am glad you could see your Dad and I can understand why you feel down and you worry, you have all reasons to feel like that. I hope your Dad will come home on Monday and I cross my fingers because he will be well, BUT he surely needs to pay attention. Your post is not negative, you are clearly evaluating the situation. I am wishing good luck to your Dad and to you.

@VivaLaDani13 I do not believe that some think you are negative on purpose. It is important to evaluate the situation, too many want to be optimist and they do not plan in advance.

@LadyDuck Thank you very much for understanding where I was coming from. I feel I may have been misunderstood by some. (that is ok it happens) I'm not being negative on purpose, like you said, evaluating what has happened and is happening. Thank you very much!

Sorry to hear the dismal situation of your dad. Well if you couldn't think positive because of this great trial in your life, accept reality.

@Nakitakona I'm not being naive or sheltered. I know what is happening and accepted it same as my dad. I'm just saying this has been going on for a long time now and as of now thinking positive has done nothing. That's all I meant.

I would say you still have asthma, but just have not had flare ups. I would also say from experience that you are right to be cautious about the condition of his foot. I would also say that there have been studies suggesting that even when people do not believe in prayer or do not know that they are being prayed for, they benefit from those prayers.

@GardenGerty When I can, I will have to go get checked for asthma. It does sound like it. I am sure there are studies like that. Same with in the reverse too of how it may not work. I have nothing against them, but I have been there many times praying / begging for help in the most horrific times and it only got worse. I personally just believe in action and in a way I do "pray" just not to a God. Nothing against him, just as of now, my thoughts are not religious like. But I'm fine when others do it as it is their personal preference if that makes sense. (I'm tired so sorry if none of this didn't make sense).

Uncontrolled diabetics is always difficult to handle but you can't be thinking about it negatively all the time. While you hope for the best should be prepared for the worst.

@msdivkar I'm / we aren't thinking negative all the time, I'm saying my family and I are not going to think positive that "everything is ok now" because this issue keeps coming back. I'm not a negative Nancy or anything but I am realistic. And in reality, this issue keeps coming back. That's all I meant.

Asthma can reoccur if you have it as a child. I'm having some of those when the pollen season begins so I better stay away from allergens.

@VivaLaDani13 It's alright since it seems that I didn't get that this year. It's other the pollen season isn't too much for me to get a reaction or I get immune form it already.

Your post isn't negative at all, it's just you being real with the situation. Nothing wrong with that. I'm happy that you finally got to see your dad, and I hope his condition keeps improving. I hate to ask this, but I will....at what point would it be more advantageous to amputate the whole foot than to keep having these repeat issues with the toes and infections? I mean, I hope it doesn't get to that point, but what if it stopped the infections and future hospital visits by removing the whole foot? Anyway, like I said, I don't want to see that happen, but I want your dad to be healthy and you and your family to be free from future worry about his diabetes management and toe infections. I know you aren't religious, but I will keep you in my prayers. You say your faith is in the doctors. My faith is in God who will work his healing powers through the hands of the doctors. Sorry, not meant as a preaching moment, just that I want you to know I'll be praying for you.

@moffittjc Thank you for understanding where I was coming from. It's ok to ask that. Well the doctors / surgeons are doing whatever they can to save his foot. It's still highly likely all his toes could go but his foot may still have a chance for a long time. And for my dad's sake, if that was to happen he would have to go ahead with it but for now he doesn't want to lose a foot. Mentally that wouldn't be good and physically not good for him. So much he wouldn't be able to do or can't do as before. I know these days you can get amazing things done but yeah long story short for now, not the option for my dad. Thank you kindly. I really do appreciate when people say they pray so thank you. I am not religious but I'm still not close minded. I "pray" in a different way, that's all. And my faith is with the doctors because, being realistic, they were the ones checking up on him hourly and giving him the medications he needed and giving him advice etc. That's all I meant about that part really.
