Hey there! Don’t know where I’m going, but I’m going! But first, here’s another one of those songs that has “Hey” in the title. Sorry to all you country music haters...but you knew this one was coming. And here it is.
#6: Hey Good Lookin’ - Hank Williams
While this is unquestionably a country song, if you look at the list of people who’ve covered it, it’s more accurate to call it a piece of American music. Ray Charles, the Residents, Jimmy Buffett, Dean Martin, and Leon Russell are some of the names on the long list of people who’ve recorded this nearly 70-year-old tune.
A sweet, innocent piece of fun that people are still singing today. And will be singing in another 70 years.
Hey. Good Lookin’
Written by Hank Williams
Recorded by Hank Williams
Released as a single, 1951

Huh??? What???? Are you feeling okay?
It’s one of those songs that just transcends whatever genre it originally belonged to. And, as I said, so many different people have recorded it you can no doubt find a version you like!

I have a personal experience that involves this song. As a fairly young teen I went with a church group out of town for an evening, in the sponsor's car. My other car mates were younger and sillier than I was. We stopped for gas, the other girls saw a very obvious drunk and sang/shouted this out to him. He came staggering over, grabbed MY door handle and opened the door. Said "I know you. You're Suzy James or some other name I have forgotten. Scared the ever livin' daylights out of me. I think of it whenever this song is mentioned.

I'm sure my Mom was a fan of Hank. That Hillbilly voice is so recognizable even to a classic rocker like me. To have one song covered by so many artists is one powerful tribute!
