What Have You Done Before

the internet came into your life? This afternoon after doing my 1-hour Zumba alone at home, I was decluttering my cupboard. I have found something I have done before in the 80´s. I did a lot of craftwork. I was stitching a tablecloth and I forgot about it. In the '80s and '90s, I was busy sewing, knitting, crocheting and stitching anything that killed my time besides writing in my journal and going to the library. Now I realized that I was not fond of going out for fun like now with my friends. I was happy keeping myself busy. I was and still is a homebody. I have found my square tablecloth which I have stitched ages ago. I am not sure if it is called stitching. You can see it in the photo when it is uploaded. Anyway, I am happy to see this tablecloth of mine. It brings me a lot of memories, happy memories. Thanks for reading. I have to go to bed again as it is almost midnight. Ciao and enjoy your new week.

This is called "embroidery" I have several that I made when I was a young girl in school, the nuns obliged us to do this. I found one of mine yesterday and also a matching apron, both never used. In the 80's and 90's I was too busy working with my husband, no time for crafting.

@thelme55 I have never been a housewife, I worked with my husband and we were extremely busy. I cleaned the house and cooked, but I had no time left for my hobbies.

Yes, I remember that it is called embroidery @LadyDuck. I was just a normal housewife in those years. My German mother-in-law inspired me to do embroidery though she didn´t say anything that I should do it. Thank you.

I think this is what we call embroidery. I used to do lots of needle crafts, and paint, and read. I need to get back to some of that.

Yes, that was it that I couldn't think of. Embroidery.. I think needle crafts were common in those years before the internet @GardenGerty. Thank you.

What a lovely tablecloth you stitched, it's beautiful! I like to hand stitch, but haven't done it in a very long time. Embroidering is what we usually called it.

That's lovely. I used to do a lot of needlework -- needlepoint, petitpoint, embroidery...and I remember WRITING a lot of letters before the internet.

Computers entered my life when I was in High School. And I was really addicted! Before that, we use to play outdoor and indoor games. Lots of friends in the colony. But today, these days are not seen around!

This is actually an interesting question, since as much as I love the Internet for all of the things it allows me to do that I could not do before it. I spent more time actually writing. Something I still do, of course, in various ways. But not like I used to. I used to write my novels in spiral notebooks, entirely by hand, and would type the manuscripts with an old Smith Corona typewriter, do my edits... I was way more productive with such things back then because there were much fewer distractions. Nowadays there's YouTube and Facebook and of course MyLot. I guess it is what it is. Seems like you found other things to do as well before the Internet, and for all of its good, maybe there are more drawbacks to the advent of the Internet than plusses. Who knows? But even today I am so used to the Internet, it is hard to think of the world without it anymore. Sort of like life without my wife. She is so much a part of my world now that it is hard to imagine what life was like when she was not with me.

I used to write my write-ups on a spiral notebook until I received a typewriter as a Christmas gift from my husband. Nowadays, there are many distractions being online and I would not like to miss the internet as it is my door to the other parts of the world. Thanks for your wonderful comment @porwest

@porwest It is indeed amazing to talk to people from all walks of life, with different traditions and cultures from all over the world through the internet. I am glad we have the internet now. I agree with you that we are all human beings with the "same things driving our lives and our ambitions." It is a wonderful revelation indeed.

@thelme55 I very much enjoy the Internet as well. Amazing that today I can talk to people from all over the globe. Germany, as where you are of course, and so many other places. What strikes me is how much we all are alike. We often think of other cultures being so different. But the truth is we are all human with many of the same things driving our lives and our ambitions. It is a wonderful revelation often times.
