Sure grabbed mine anyhow. To the point 'f total distraction fer the few moments such 'twas here. This vibrantly colored lil gem 'tis called a Lesser Goldfinch (Spinus psaltria. Cute lil songbird, the first I've e'er seen 'round these parts. Kinda looks like 't should be kin to a bumble bee, don'tcha think? Purty certain this lil fella didn't 'dhere to the travelin' restrictions 'mposed coz 't comes from the great state 'f Texas. Really confusin' coz they're quite fond 'f places with 'n average rainfall 'f 35". Heck, we're lucky if'n we can squeeze 15" 'f moisture out'ta the clouds annually. Sure made my heart skip a beat to not 'nly see, but 'lso snap a couple pics 'fore 't took off to the north. Perhaps he's directionally impaired?

This colorful bird is so pretty, it is smaller than a sparrow. I think we have them here. Is this a goldfinch?

@crazyhorseladycx We have the olive green goldfinch, but I also noticed some smaller that are yellow and black, I am not sure they are the same species.

@LadyDuck hmm, wonder what they'd be? i find 't most fascinatin', frustratin' 't times, figurin' out the lil birds migratin' through here. i've still quite a few from this autumn that i've nary a clue what they'd be. 've not been able to narrow 't down. perhaps i'll 've more time fer such this winter.

i'd been takin' pics 'f a curve-billed thrasher (the puny'un i'm thinkin'...'r a new skinny'un) when such caught my eye. the lil bird 'hind 't 'tis a female red house finch. 'twas wonderful to've her fer comparison'n size coz she looks huge, lol.

@just4him makes me wonder if'n they'd not a larger range than the folks with the 'know' believe? 'r what would'a caused 'em to travel this far, to where conditions fer their survival does not 'xist. kinda like that california scrub jay - though i figure such 'twas one 'f many species fleein' all the fires, jest to find said fires very wide spread.

You got really close there! We have finches sort of like these, but they never come down to the yard . . . they are always in the trees or the electric wires. So we never get to know these guys personally. The color is striking! I hope he gets to wherever he needs to go!

the 'magic' 'f a high powered zoom lens, lol. 've not seen these here 'fore. there'd be one that 'tis more olive colored (saw a pair earlier'n the frozen waterfall). i hope 't made't, too. 'r 't the very least found good shelter from this storm that's so widespread. perhaps 't knew 'f the ice storm headed to 'ts native grounds'n thought'd be safer here? i confess to spendin' (wastin'?) many hours here, searchin' for the 'pportunities to snag pics 'r 't least witness all that come.

@crazyhorseladycx Nice zoom then! How are away were you? Surely the birds know more about what they're doing and they can feel things. Hopefully it went to a safe place. You have a passion for taking shots of these beautiful friends that come to visit !

@much2say uhm, that feeder 'tis 'bout 40 ft? perhaps a tad closer to where i 'twas standin'. i hope such's well, they're prone to jest hunkerin' down when caught off guard. 've not seen this particular fella 'gain, but that don't mean 't aint been 'round. yes ma'am, perhaps too much?? lots 'f time spent tryin' to get decent shots so's i can figure out (sometimes...i've gotten many wrong, lol) what species. if'n such's jest passin' through (migration paths) 'r perhaps one 'nterested'n nestin' here come spring. the latter i'm quite certain a big no fer this fella. all those danged ferals...

'tis been weeks 'lready'n the latter. i've either the same'un doin' better, 'r 'nother who's not well.
