Just spent about $50 on paper towels, toilet paper, and napkins

I went to Target (online) and ordered Quilted Northern toilet paper ($18.19 for 18 mega rolls), Bounty paper towels ($24.99 for 12 doubles plus rolls), and Bounty napkins ($2.99 for 200 napkins). I qualified for free shipping. With tax the total came to $50.27. That seems like a lot of money. Bounty napkins and the toilet paper were a good price but I am not sure if Bounty paper towels were. But we are almost low on them, and I haven't see them in stores, so decided to get them. I hope Target did not have a lower price in the actual store. I went to Amazon to see if maybe the Bounty paper towels are cheaper there but seems prices there are way higher. And I don't even know if it is Amazon selling it or a third-party seller. I didn't check. I also went to Costco (a wholesaler) to see if they had what I need there as it'd be cheaper but nothing came up in the search. I hope we are not getting to the point again where stores are gonna be out of essentials. I haven't been able to find the soap I use in stores. Target had it online but it said not available for shipping. I may have to ask hubby to drive me to the actual store to see if they have it. We are running low on it. Last time they didn't have it but maybe this time they do.

I stocked on toilet paper at the begining of the COVID lockdown. But I had better ask for them again in my next purchase.

I didn't need toilet paper yet but got it because then I'd qualify for free shipping. And I'd need it at some point anyway so it made sense to get it now.

@ScotMac I never really stockpile but it's good to have extra stuff on hand as stores may not have what we need or prices may increase. We have 12 cans of soup. Got them because they were on sale and hubby wants to get more.

Never really had the need to stockpile even at the height of the UK's first lockdown. We've always managed to get what we wanted or a near equivalent.

I checked for Bounty there online today and it's way more expensive and in smaller quantity.

Walgreens, usually has the paper towels, are people hoarding where you live?

@lovebuglena you have to catch some sales if you can. I hate price gouging and so many have higher prices.

@CookieMonster46 I understand slightly increasing prices when demand is high but to way overprice something is just ridiculous, especially for things people really need.

It is a good thing you good them now because I heard there will be shortages of them again.

@lovebuglena Yes, it is. It is reality. I am shopping tomorrow and hope they have some on the shelves. They say canned soups will be short and canned meat like Spam. Everyone will be trying to buy those items.

I finally found my Bounty at Costco through Instacart, but was only allowed one 12 roll pack. I stocked up on all paper goods all fall and am good. I just want more Bounty towels. My son will pick them up.

My mom uses Instacart for Costco shopping. Whenever she checks it Bounty is not there. I guess it depends what time of the day you check.

I personally never buy anything unless I know it's a good price before I buy it. Of course, as you know, I am quite anal-retentive when it comes to money. But I hate wasting it if I can avoid it. Not sure if you got good deals or not, but hopefully you did.

I hate to over pay! My Bounty paper towel purchase is still bugging me as I don't know if I paid a good price or not. Hope I didn't over pay. However, we need paper towels and I only buy Bounty brand, so didn't really have much of a choice. Amazon was way higher prices. I think Walmart had cheaper but no shipping available.

@porwest I have a license for many years but I am afraid to drive. And even if I wasn't afraid to drive we only have one car and hubby always uses it as that's how he gets to and from work. And we can't afford another car.

The way things are now in stores, get it while you can. Walmart didn't have canned beans last week.

I remember there was a time when Goya beans were sold out in our supermarket. I never thought there would ever be a shortage of that.

I have heard there are going to be food shortages again. I hope paper goods are not going to disappear. I don't have a lot of TP here, maybe I will get some the next time I go out.

I hope that will not happen. I hope my soap is back in stores. I don't wanna switch to something else.

While some stores have done better about restocking, others have not. Target in general is very expensive. While it's true, often online and in-person prices vary, it's hard to say for sure. I live in Florida, and the processes are much lower (but then so is the cost of living overall). If you're looking for cost savings, try wall-mart, Family dollar (or any dollar store), or something like that if you want to find a lower price. Also retailers know there's a high demand of paper products, despite some states being in phase 3 of reopening. So, of course, they're going to use it as an excuse to raise prices.

@lovebuglena I find that surprising that you don't have easy access to a wal-mart up here. Down here, I feel you can't go ten blocks without running into one or public. I agree though, inflated prices suck, and you shouldn't have had to spend that much just for paper products.

Toilet paper and Bounty napkins I use are cheaper in Target than in my supermarket where I usually buy them. Not sure about Bounty as my mom used to get it for me at Costco and I never looked for it at Target or my supermarket. I checked for this stuff at Walmart online (no actual stores near me) but there was no option to order online.

I was at the grocery store the other day and a customer was yelling at a stock clerk because the paper towels were $25 (must have been a large pack of paper towels). She was accusing the grocery store of price gouging due to the pandemic. The poor stock clerk was on the receiving end of her anger, which I thought was funny. Like it was his fault the price was so high. And interestingly, after all that yelling and screaming and complaining, the lady ended up buying the paper towels anyway.

@lovebuglena At my local grocery store, the toilet paper and paper towels flies off the shelf so fast that they took down all the prices so they could just throw the TP and paper towels anywhere they have room for it on the shelves. Nobody even cares about the prices, they are just happy to be able to buy it.

Wow! That was rude! The clerk has nothing to do with the prices. And after all that she bought it anyway. But I do understand why she is angry. Hiking up prices by a lot for things people really need is not fair. My parents always got us Bounty from Costco. Last time we bought it our selves at the supermarket during the height of the pandemic. Don't remember how much they cost. But there were many in a pack. So not sure if what I paid now is a lot or not but seems like a lot. With tax it was a bit over $27.

Thanks. I told hubby about it yesterday and he asked me if I got two of everything. I said no. He said I should've. If I got two of everything I would've spent about $100. $50 is high as it is already.

That makes me so angry that prices are so hiked up for something that people really need. I understand increasing the price when there is high demand as you make more money but it has to be done within reason.
