Did I "do the right thing"?

Yesterday, I took a short cycle (about a mile). I just wanted to loosen up the old bones. At the entrance to the bike path, I saw the word POLICE, written in kids' sidewalk chalk. Looking more closely, I saw that someone had written DEFUND POLICE, and that someone else had erased DEFUND. After my ride, I grabbed my Diablo Valley College chalk and my camera, and returned to the scene. I wrote what you see in the picture. I am curious to see if others write more. In my fantasy, others would write: gays, straights, blacks, whites, Christians, Jews, Hindus, Muslims, hummingbirds, kitties, dogs, parrots, warthogs, Demorcrats, Moderates, Republicans, etc. all around what's there. We can dream, right? Did I do the right thing? This is my first experience a a graffiti artist!

I’m happy you used chalk so nobody has to come out and paint over it! Love God, love your neighbor. How hard is it???

It's chilly out, but I may cycle over there to see if anyone reacted.

Clear and to the point. I always did think that word "defund" wasn't exactly the right word.

@TheHorse I support the police too . . . but there needs to be certain reforms - especially when there are those who a bit control-happy and abuse their powers.

@TheHorse I think that would definitely be up your alley!

Of course I'd like t see more money go to conflict-resolution-trained psychologists, like me. But I fully support the police in their efforts to handle the mentally challenged, the criminally-oriented, and others in need.

I think you should advance to drawing next time. A drawing of the kitty for example, or of a horse. Makes everyone happy.

@TheHorse You can draw stick-people? Everyone can! Assuming that's what they're called in English. Circle for a head, lines for limbs. And it's not far from stick-people to stick-cats

All I can draw is mountains with foothills (and pine trees). I was at the crossroads, and sold my ability to do visual art to the Devil for my musical genius.

@TheHorse lol, yes sir, that'cha'd be. they 'nly continue such disregard coz 'tis been 'llowed. not one ounce 'f respect fer others, not e'en 'emselves. though they profess the latter. i miss the days when bein' put'n jail 'twas more'f a punishment. now many've t.v., internet, 't least 1 phone call a day that lasts longer'n 2 minutes. can've nike tennis shoes, get free education, etc. they rape, murder, pilfer 'n plunder yet've all the rights outside'f bein' able to go where they please.

@crazyhorseladycx Yep, save the tranquilizer darts for the looters. Ideally you could put some anesthetic on the ends of the darts, so it just feels like a mosquito going in. Have I talked enough about the women's prison I worked in? I'll say more later. It was for non-violent criminals who COULD be rehabilitated. But for those would would damage property and steal sh*t, a small cell, a toilet, and bread and water is enough. Dang, I'm pretty law-and-orderish for a Liberal, ain't I?

We need a lot more positive going out in this world. It's sad we can't realize we are all the human race.

@TheHorse I can only guess that it is the only way they can feel good about themselves. They are so full of hate and bitterness that it is the only way they know? Thats a question for the ages. There have always been people that have had rough lives and over came without blaming the world or another group of people, but I am sure there have always been lots of haters.

@DearAphrodite Yes, it's almost a "cliche" in psychology that you have to love yourself before you can love others. I fear that many "haters" dealt with unsupportive parents or were bullied along the way and never recovered from it.

It is a good message. You did the right thing there. Not a fan of the abuses that the police are doing but I do not agree that defunding the police force is the way to go.

What abuses are the police doing? I think they're doing the best they can, given the circumstances. Of course, as a common sense individual, I voted for Joe Biden. I just hope he has a good plan for honoring and supporting the police, while simultaneously supporting First Amendment rights.

my rule is if someone one of a minority says that minorities' lives matter, I agree. If someone asks me my personal opinion and doesn't say xyz lives matter first, I always say lives matter. i think you did the right thing

I feel for that lady administrator who had to retract her statement several years ago. Her statement? "All lives matter."
