I’m a Cheater and Proud of It!

As if I didn’t have enough to do today after our first day home from our getaway to Vermont ~ cleaning and 6 loads of laundry, I did something I haven’t done in ages. I baked my own bread! Of course I cheated. I used my bread maker. All I did was add the ingredients and push a button. . The photo shows hubby’s bread slicing talents ~ 4 slices for two sandwiches. And boy, was it good and all natural. I’m going to try my hand at more bread baking with and without the bread making machine. I do feel guilty being a cheater.

Hey, I cheat more and just buy a loaf at the store . Your bread looks great! I've been wanting to do those rustic, artisan type breads . . . but of course that's a back burner project.

@DianneN Ohhh, do show off your lovely breads! I'd like to try sourdough too. Do you guys have a bread slicer or did your husband do that with a knife? Looks so perfect

That's what I've been doing for years. I found some great recipes for crusty rolls and artisan breads. Wish me luck!!!

@much2say I will show failures, too! If I get good at this, we may have to invest in a bread slicer. Hubs always gets the job of slicing certain things such as bread, tomatoes, and onions. His eye and hand are much better than mine. I do have a gadget for slicing tomatoes, but never bother to take it out of the drawer.

I´m worse. I went for a visit to María´s house and she had baked bread with her own hands. I just had to say "thank you" for her to fill a bag with the 2 kinds of bread she had made.

It's always better when someone else does the bread baking. We had a friend from here who moved to Vermont. Every time we went up to spend the weekend, he was up at 3 in the morning making fresh bread. No can do.

@DianneN I’m not sure I was given it for my bridal shower back in 2003. I kept it a long time after to make dough with to make breadsticks in the oven etc.

I don't blame you. I've never baked bread but recall mom telling me that it would need to be kneaded and then it would have to rise and kneaded again so as a working girl in those days I had better things to do ... you know, go to parties, clubs or whatnot.

Tasty looking. I cheated last bread making time, too. My hubby made the bread! He knew I would be making little fruit pies that day so first thing in the morning he grabbed the jar of yeast and got busy. Sweet guy.

Looks good. If there was room here I think I would consider getting a bread machine if they could be found I had one before Hurricane Ivan forced me to move in with sis that was destroyed in the storm and it made good bread

Well you can blame it with technology that makes things easier for everyone.. Bread making is now made easier less hassle and stress. I saw some of it online and it looks pretty easy to prepare bread. Just toss in the ingredients and it will mixed for your and after a few hours you have a freshly baked bread. Congratulations for that effortless but enjoyable eating of your own bread.

@DianneN I guess it’s more pleasurable to eat those that you did put some effort. My wife tried it doing the old fashioned way but somehow made it either too hard or too airy.. But we appreciated the effort and time to do it.

I love baking bread. It's been a while since I did so. I agree. A bread machine is cheating. I refuse to buy one because I love getting my hands in the dough. It tastes so good when it comes out of the oven. I start eating it while it's still warm. Enjoy your bread. It looks delicious!

And whenever I prepare a meal, I cheat in some way! Frozen vegetable by Fresh-Like? At times, rolls from WalMart bakery? Mrs. Smith's apple pie? Yes, I do make homemade foods, but at times I don't! Your bread looks delicious and makes me want a bread-making machine, as a gift from my husband:)

We all need to cheat here and there. I'd rip out my hair if I had to slave all day in the kitchen. I think a break making machine is a wonderful gift. I'm going to make French bread this weekend.
