A friend just shared the following video clip on his Facebook site. It was up on the ABC’s (Australian Broadcasting Corporation) Landline program. Someone(s) were kayaking and chanced to see a mob of kangaroos crossing a river. I thought you might all like to see it. Kangaroos are good swimmers as this clip shows. The photo was taken through the kitchen window. I’ve used it before but thought you might like to see it again. The doe is just scratching herself.
Now this is a sight you don't get to see every day... a mob of kangaroos crossing a river! 🦘 This special scene was captured during a morning kayak at...

Those kayakers were lucky to see such a sight. Not too many would have ever seen such a mob swimming in this way. You'd think it would be very difficult to hop in deep water.

@LindaOHio I'm still hoping to get video footage of a little one practising his hopping. There were some in the garden yesterday but I couldn't get a decent shot.

I don't think they swim very often. Those who don't live in Australia are very intrigued with our kangaroos.

I don't think they'd do it unless circumstances called for it but none of them seemed to have any difficulty with it.

I think you are right. Even if they don't often need to swim, if they have to, then instinctively they can.

There was an old wives' tale that pigs couldn't swim as they would cut their throats with their short front legs.

The water can't be too deep as one seems to hop most of the way. I think it would be hard work hopping in the water.

@judyev They look quite bendy - the one on the right looks like it’s having a good old ponder at the universe. I’d love to see an underwater shot of the swimmers. Can’t imagine what the action looks like under the surface.
