How I made an extra $15 yesterday without MyLot's help!

During these strange times, I'll accept any money that wants to sprout little wings and fly to my desk. As many of you know, I like to make coasters out of guitar sound holes. I mostly give them to music-playing friends, but once in awhile I sell a pair. Yesterday, a luthier (guitar maker) saw my ad on Craigslist and came over and bought a pair. It was extra fun because he brought his 5-year-old daughter along. She was a chatterbox (in a good way) and I gave her my copy of Maurice Sendak's Where the Wild Things Are to "read" while her daddy and I talked. All in all a good afternoon. And yes, we all had our masks on.

It was a fun time. Daddy is a luthier and jazz guitar/bass player. I may email him back and ask if he has any music "out there" for me to listen to.

I am glad you had a fun time. I had a nice talk with my neighbor this afternoon, we had to raise a bit our voice because we were at least 15 feet apart, but it worked.

@TheHorse We were both coming back home after grocery shopping, we discussed a bit of the actual situation. She has two children, one is 18 and works, she is a bit concerned.

Conversation is good, no matter how far apart we are. And person to person beats the heck out of the internet or telephone.

Yeah, except for the local kids, I don't get to satisfy my kid mojo these days, especially with Horse Jr. gone.

@just4him I hope so! I'm actually working a couple of days a week with some developmentally delayed kids, but the person who runs that small preschool is a bit of a flake. So I never know if I'm working on any given day until the last moment.

She was cute. She told me she had "read" that book because they had it at her preschool, etc. etc. etc. She also said "Your house is messy!" All of my woodworking stuff is in a heap by the door, where she was standing.

Very good to see some of these are put to good use. I always wondered what happened to a guitar hole. now I know. And glad you were able to scoop up a few extra bucks as well.

I think the manufacturers either stamp them and use them as promotional material (Martin) or just toss them (Collings).

@porwest I agree. As you know, Collings is an elite guitar manufacturer. Their Martin imitations sell for more than Martins. And they appreciate over time. But they are very cool about sending me dozens of sound holes (for free) to be "repurposed."

I told him exactly how I make them, so he can do so if he winds up with sound holes from his luthiery.
