Well, he made it a week

Hubby got his catheter out last Tuesday. Usually we are back in the ER within two days to have it put back in. He made it a week this time. We went to the VA ER early this evening. They say that he has an infection and it may have caused him to become blocked again. He came home with antibiotics and a catheter in place again. I am taking "sick leave" tomorrow.Just from exhaustion.

I could have worked, but there are things I need to do during "business hours" that I cannot do at work.

Basically damage from radiation treatment of prostate cancer. He wishes now he had surgery instead.

@LadyDuck Yes, they are. The cather keeps him from living his life as fully as he would like too.

@JudyEv We actually feel like the original cancer treatment may be what precipitated his stroke.

He does not feel really bad. He has just learned the signs that indicate he is going to have trouble if he is not taken care of.

@GardenGerty That is good that he can recognize the signs otherwise may be a big problem.

Could the continuing catharization be causing the infections?

Yes, if you have a catheter, you will have infections. Usually we do not treat the infection until the catheter is out, and only if it does not clear up on its own.

I hope that a day off will give you some rest. Whenever I took a day off I usually ended up cleaning the house. Defeated the purpose!
