Diego Armando Maradona was probably the best soccer player in the world. In this post, I will say football instead of soccer because that´s what we, half of the world, name this sport. He was not only a wonderful player but his life was incredible, with ups and downs as it is the life of a man that is bigger than life. I saw him play once, when he was not in his prime. But still he did what he wanted with the ball. RIP, Diego Armando.. You will be remembered.

Although England were on the wrong end of his 'Hand of God' goal I can still say he was arguably the best there has ever been. Certainly up there with the likes of Puskas and Pele. And before people start throwing Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo into the mix they have to remember that Maradona excelled as an attacking player at a time when defenders could almost commit murder before being given a yellow card. I would love to have seen him play in today's game where attacking players get a free kick because someone looks at them the wrong way. A true legend of the game. I certainly won't forget him.

I saw Pele because my late husband was a pro football player and one of the best chilean defenses of his time. Maradona came later. Football has changed a lot now. I want to think that there was more passion back in those days. When I saw Maradona he was middle aged, overweighed, short. Nothing like a Greek god. Yet on the field he was still incredible.

@marguicha What is your husbands name? My team, Newcastle United, had a couple of Chilean brothers playing for them in the 1950s, Jorge and Eduardo Robledo. Jorge scored the winning goal in the 1952 FA Cup Final and was the first non-British player to be top scorer in an English football season.

Yes, I just read this a short while ago. What a shame. I'm sorry for the loss. Oh and by the way, soccer IS football. American football is not football at all; it's more like 'kill the guy with the ball'.

I always thought that the real fooball was a game where they played with their feet.

@marguicha Yes, that is logical. American football has no logic at all.

I have read the sad news and football is the correct name of the game, because it was invented in the old continent with this name.

He was only 60. He was so important in Argentina that that wake has been held in Argentina´s government house.

Our news has been full of his exploits too. RIP Very sad to think he has passed away at just 60 years of age.
