We now have our Christmas tree

We spent the weekend in a caravan on a horse stud where we were taking photos. On our last day there, the owner took us to see some of the sights. Vince happened to mention that he wanted a live Christmas tree so within minutes we’d picked up a battery operated chainsaw from the house and were driving along the edge of a bluegum plantation looking for rogue pine trees. In no time at all we have several small trees which we’ll probably put into one pot to make a single bushier Christmas tree. At least, we don’t have to worry about a Christmas tree any longer. Pictured is our hostess and Vince with our trees.

That's fantastic, free trees. On Oahu we pay from something like $30 upward to over $100. We have a tree farm, Helemano Farms on Oahu where trees go from $50 to over $100 depending on height. Christmas begins...
Helemano Farms grows and sells thousands of Christmas trees on Oahu. We also sell potted trees and Christmas wreaths made from our trees. Helemano Farms began in 2002 as a retirement project of Hawaii agriculture executive Mike O'Brien.

I think we have tree farms here too but these would be pulled out at some stage as they are in the blue gum plantations. They can be quite expensive here too.

Glad you found your Christmas tree. Reminds me of the wonderful times we had in Latvia when they allowed people to go into certain woods and get their own tree, I loved that the snow and the pine scents it was wonderful no matter how cold it got

It's a great little saw. I wouldn't mind one like that myself.

Such a fun photo. I didn't know pine trees grew there. Yep. I'm that naïve and need to learn more about other places.

@noni1959 That's a lovely thing to say. Thanks very much. This diagram surprised me too. I had no idea we were so similar in size. And you won't learn much from this next diagram but it shows the world as it really is!!

We have pine plantations for wood chip and paper, etc. I guess most of it goes overseas. Australia is nearly as big as the US so we have a great variety of climate, tree types, geography, etc.

@Cheyee I only have a big star which is a chocolate box lid. If that doesn't suit or is too big, I'll have to buy a star.

That’s nice to know you cab easily get them there. In my place we do have that kind of tree so most of ours are either plastic ones.

@JudyEv You are right, those trees need a lot of water during summer, we have thunderstorms in summer here, we usually do not have a too dry weather.

@LadyDuck We should have planted out ours. We have to water them through the first few summers here, if we plant them out, and if we go away, then sometimes they don't get enough water.
