Products that defeat the purpose

Recently I got some trash bags. Opened one up to use and a short time later I got a headache, noticed a horrible strong floral scent in the air and.... it was my scented garbage bag. Ugh! I think I would rather smell garbage! Do you get headaches from certain scents? Photo: Pixabay user CocoParisienne

I don't think many smells give me a headache but I wouldn't want scented garbage bags. Not sure why not.

The scented ones are great if you eat a lot of fish and throw discarded bits of the fish in the bin. If you keep the bin in the kitchen and don't throw it out until it's full, then it keeps the smell down. Also, while we are on the subject of fish: if you leave the eyes on it will see you through the week. Just a little tip from me!

@Orson_Kart I can't quite decide where that joke should come on a scale of 1 to 10. There is something fishy about it.

I know just how you feel. I've had scented garbage bags before and got the same headache that you got. Most perfumes and other man made scents are irritating to me. Now a real bouquet of flowers or a bowl of fresh fruit has a beautiful aroma. That I can really enjoy.

Yes, strong sents can really throw me for a loop. It's rare that it happens, but then I don't have to deal with them too often anymore.

Oh, yes! Not from the scented trash bags, but from some perfumes. (When I dated Pretty's mom she sometimes wore a perfume (Pearls and Lace) that would make me throw up after about 15 minutes... It was nice)

@FayeHazel Sorta... I threw the bottle away so she couldn't wear it again. (She wore it after I told her it was making me sick. She laughed when I threw up.) She wasn't happy that I threw it away, but I wasn't willing to throw up again for her amusement. *shrug*

@DaddyEvil Wow. She sounds mean. I guess laughing wouldn't have come to mind. I don't blame you. Sorta reminds of when my aunt and cousin were both smoking. They were bad. Almost chain smokers. I got tired of they'd smoke outside but wouldn't care to sit down wind. So... I would hide/take their lighters. It was hilarious

I can't stand floral and fruity scent. It give me headache. Most of my perfume is fresh, like lemon or lime.

Once I had a perfume "Apple" I think it was. Loved the scent, but it was so strong it made my nose run and gave me a headache. I know what you mean

This is becoming common. I suspect that the products that cause headaches use cheap scent chemicals that are irritants. And I really don't understand why everything has to be scented.

@FayeHazel I agree with you. I'm not afraid of chemicals---I love Ding-Dongs and Twinkies and lots of other foods that are 98% non-food chemicals---but the line needs to be drawn somewhere.

It's a pity I think. Not everything needs a scent or color. I hate the thought of eating all those artificial colors too. I don't care if my food isn't neon, it can be food colored lol

Any strong fragrance irritates me. I avoid perfumes and deodorants. They give me headache. I like the light jasmine or citrus smell of floor cleaner though. Right now my house is smelling of thatas the floor has just been wiped.

Yes, I do. I’m very allergic to perfumes, and they’ll give me a headache or an asthma attack. I have bought the scented bags, but they’re either vanilla or mint scented, which tends to be light.
